Does anyone have a problem eating beef?
My husband and I are new to this. We are waiting to get our first appointment with the surgeon. My husband works with someone that had a gastric bypass about a year ago. She says she can not eat beef. She can not digest it. I was wanting to know if this is problem with every one or if it just happens to be just her. Any input?
Everyone is different. I think everyone has some problems with certain foods early on. Like, I could not eat eggs for the first few months after surgery but beef never was a problem. Now, I have an egg almost every morning it seems. And now that I am 2 years post op I can pretty much eat anything except real sugar. I have dumping syndrome on too much real sugar. A bite here and there doesn't bother me but I can't eat much. The only time I have a problem with any kind of meat now is if it is dry. I have to make sure when I eat meat it is very tender and moist. Can't do dry chicken. Like my doctor told me, don't write it off just because you couldn't tolerate it the first time you tried. Try something, if you get sick or it bothers you wait two weeks and try it again.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I can a do eat it with no problem, i make sure its moist and tender and i chew it well. I have been eatting beef since i was about 3 week out! I dont eat it often tought a few times a month, and im good! BUT i can eat anything as long as its not a lot of sugar, or white bread makes me feel icky!

The above post is true, some people have trouble with different foods. Chicken is the food that gets "stuck" sometimes for me. Beef, only had problem with once or twice (I'm a little over 2.5 years out now). Just got to chew meats well and make sure they are moist. Good questions though, only way to find out is to keep asking. DeAnna.
What everyone here says is true. I am 8 months out and had the most tender yummy steak the other night. I couldn't eat beef at first, even ground, but now I can eat just about anything.
It just depends on you - it's such a personal journey. No one's experience is ever completely the same.
Wanted to say Hi to my neighbors - I'm in Madison!

Hey Kimberly. It's nice to know we have a neighbor to talk to. We love this web site. It has been very helpful. My husband needs to do his profile. You know how men are. He keeps talking about it but never does it. We are looking forward to our first visit to the doctor. I know this is a long and drawn out process, but it is good in a way that it really gives a person time to think about it to make sure it is the right move for them. Will keep in touch. Glenda
