Extreme Makeover in Southern MS
Hi. This post was at Hattiesburg FreeCycle so I thought I'd pass it along.
Extreme Makeover Host Reveals Details About Hurricane Katrina Memorial
The national spotlight is once again shining on South Mississippi.
Since Saturday, crews from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition have been in
South Mississippi, working on various projects.
Cast members of the hit TV show say South Mississippi will not be
forgotten, nor will the people who lost their lives in the catastrophic
storm.
On Saturday, more details about a Hurricane Katrina Memorial were unveiled
at a press conference at Biloxi City Hall.
Preston Sharp, a designer and star of the ABC hit show, gave details about
the project.
"Quite specifically, our memorial is to honor those that have passed. It's
also supposed to be inspiring, and we all need to move forward from it,
and have a positive outlook toward the future without forgetting the
past," Sharp said.
The memorial will included names of Katrina storm victims, but Sharp says
they will not be etched into the Memorial until all of the names are
gathered.
Crew members are also calling on South Mississippians to pitch in and help
them complete the memorial.
"We will have, I'm not sure what to call it, but perhaps a memory case,"
Sharp said. "It requires your involvement. It's the objects that you will
give to us that we will put on display and not buy."
South Mississippians can bring those objects down to Biloxi Town Green
Monday morning.
The collection begins at 8 a.m.
"We'll find a use for all the donations, and I would further say that if
people are willing to part with this objects, if we don't encase them in
this display, we may find a way to immerse them or put them in the ground
and somehow bury them within the memorial," Sharp said.
Sharp says construction on the memorial is right on schedule, thanks to
good weather.
A candlelight vigil will be held at Biloxi Town Green once work is completed.
The project will be part of four special Thursday night episodes of
Extreme Makeover that will include the Mississippi Gulf Coast, New
Orleans, Texas and Florida.
The Thursday night series will begin airing March 16.
