no flaming please---just info
I confess
My name is Jane Hudnall and I did not throw that PACKAGE OF TWO poptarts out the window this morning.
Okay so here is my question
How long after you eat something sweeter than sweet do you dump? I ate that at 7:30 and then at 9 30 I strted having weak legs, dizziness, sweats and chills. I was sooooo messed up. Anyway I was freezing before too long so I wrapped up in multiple blankets and laid down. It has been 2 and a half hours and I just woke up. I am fine now. Felt just like what you describe as dumping but it seemed to be a long time after the sweets. And I had a cup of coffee from a different plae and it was strong. Maybe it was the coffee. I don't know. I feel washed out but fine now after sleeping the day away. Last night I even sweat alot in my sleep. And Arlies I don't appreciate you praying over my not having a period in months. I am in the throes of my second period in 3 weeks. lol
Anyway I was just wondering what you thought.
Love Jane
We have not heard from Jeremy's CT yet. May be in the am the Dr said a while ago.
First of all, let me start by saying, that NO ONE has any right to flame you or anyone else for their food choices. Everyone has weaknesses they just may not be honest enough to share them with all of us. I dump on sweets almost every time, but I still eat them sometimes. Sometimes I dump immediately, sometimes it is delayed an hour, two hours or even more. I don't know if it is the sugar content that causes the delay, or what it is. I have eaten Blueberry poptarts before and yes, I too, dumped on them. I find that if I lay down and take a nap, or just rest a while then I am fine. I rarely get sick other than just weakness and cold sweats. I can dump on something today then eat the same thing tomorrow and not dump. My body works in very mysterious ways... Anyway.. good for you for being honest and confessing.. don't beat yourself up. Weakness for the wrong foods are pretty normal.
talk to you soon,
Rhonda
Jane,
The reason you felt so bad was NOT dumping syndrome. You expierienced a blood sugar crash which will cause the symptoms you had. Sleeping it off helps you feel better while your insulin level stabolizes.
I can eat sweets too as long as I have protein first. You may have been okay had you had some protein with it like cheese or eggs. Your insulin level rose and then bottomed out causing you to feel the way you did.
Dumping syndrome happens normally within 30 minutes. Insulin related happens longer out - several hours.
Hope this helps.
For 4 years now I have been confused about the definition of "dumping". I thought "dumping" WAS the same thing as a blood sugar spike and crash.
I 've never had any gastrointestinal distress from sugar, but I definatley get the wooseys, nausea and need lie down. Lactose intolerance also confuses the situation. I think I dump (or spike and crash) from the sugar in milk but I heard Dr Carson say it was not dumping but lactose intolerance. I still don't know!
What ever too much sugar makes me do, it is unpleasant. WhoooHoo, thank you God for RNY!
