THE QUEEN HAS A PLAN!!!!!

Ya'll this may NOT be obesityhelp kosher, but I have an idea! Joyce has been on my mind alot lately and her approval for surgery and then voc rehab's not paying anymore...and I just have been mulling it over, thinking what are we gonna do? I know God has plans for JOyce and all of us....but sometimes He kicks us to get his plans going (and sometimes He does His plan in SPITE of us!).....I've been wishing that I had bizillions of dollars and could just go to Joyce (and others with insurance problems ) and say, "here, Honey, I'll pay for that." Well, God didn't give me that kind of money, so here's the plan...... Do you think maybe we could establish a non-profit WLS "scholarship" for those that need surgery and don't have a way to pay? We would only make payments to Docs or hospitals, not the individual (since we may not know everybody as well as we do Joyce and don't want it to be mis-used). Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. My thought to get the $ started would be to do a Mississippi WLS cookbook. And ALL proceeds would go to this. I have been in on the making of cookbooks before, but not one of the "get 'er started" ones. So if you have any experience with this or thoughts on it, PLEASE let me know. I will collect the recipes (email them to [email protected] and in the subject line, put "WLS recipes") and I will keep a strict accounting of the $ and provide you guys with a monthly (or whatever) report on the finances. I am honest to a fault, so don't worry about me and the money, I don't want God to hit me on the head with lightening!!! And we can have a committee to decide who gets funded, but I nominate Joyce first if she hasn't had her surgery when we get enough $. Lemme hear from you.... Smoochies arlies

Arlies, I'm all for it! I have some fundraising experience so I'll be glad to help anyway I can. I get so discouraged hearing of all the people who's insurance won't pay for this lifesaving surgery! I also agree that Joyce should go first. We could also come up with a Cafepress.com store if someone here is good with logo's and such.... DX? We use this for fundraising for our grief support website and it's so easy. It brings in steady money, not tons, but just a steady stream. Can we say carwash? Garage sales? etc.... Let's do it! I'm in.. I have already decided to do a small cookbook for my support group meeting if they send me the recipes that they want in it, so I can forward you all of those recipes as well. The cookbook that my nephew's school did sold for $10, and it was a great little cookbook. I will work it from my end of the state. Love you! Rhonda

Arlies, what a wonderful idea!!! I know I don't know a whole lot about cooking, but I will definitely contribute too. The main issue I have with this would be how to calculate the whole per serving thingie... hmmm.. but I will gladly dig thru the recipes and send a few over to ya. AND--- I very much agree that we should nominate Joyce as our first beneficiary of our plot here. Like you, I 've read the posts the last few weeks and was very upset to hear that VR quit paying. What a buncha baloney. Geez. But if we all chip in, we can help out Joyce. Maybe a few donations on top of the cookbook price? ( "suggested price" and any extra donations are welcome?? ) Ok.. well, gonna go start looking for my recipes now.. ~Andie~

This sounds like a wonderful thing! I have quite a few recipes that I have collected that I can pass on. With a scholarship and perhaps an award of a few thousand dollars, a person can raise the rest and have surgery. Also, I remember reading about a class action suit against insurance companies who deny weight loss surgeries to patients! I believe that Medicare and Medicade do pay for WLS, if the doctor documents the need for it and an extensive medical history. If Joyce can qualify financially, she can have them do a spend - down and pay for the surgery that way, especially if she is getting financial aid.

Absolutely, Also, will there be a way for us to send in money in at paycheck time? Set up an account or something? Cause I ain't rich but I can give $10 every pay day, and probably several others can too....D.
