My 1st appointment w/ Dr. Whitehead is Monday!
Finally found out this morning. So, i go & if the doc feels I'm suitable for surgery they will set up a nutritional & psych. exam & send letter to my insurance. Of course ya'll know if insurance ok's it & I pass the evaluations , I should get a date. I'm not holding my breath. I'm affraid of being let down, but I'm not giving up. PLEASE, I know it's been asked probably 1,000 times but tell me about what went on at your psych & nutritional evaluations? Thanks so much.
Melissa
I used Dr. Whitehead... The nutritionist I had was Dr. Carsons.. I think they are using Ann Blackwell too... He required me to keep a food journal for a month before he would write my letter. Wasnt bad - I needed to do it.
The psych exam sucked. Over 600 questions with bubbles to circle in. My eyes were crossed and my Dr. was not very WLS friendly. I hear they are using a new doctor in that area too.. I had Dr. Hartwig. I hope you dont have to go to her.
From the beginning of my journey til the day of surgery was almost exactly 6 mos.
Breathe and sit back and try to relax.
I used Dr. Whitehead also. The wait for me was about 6 months as well, but the reason for my delay was an injury to my foot that kept me immobile for 2 months! Had to wait until they knew I could walk. The nutrition doctor, Dr. Carsons is very nice. Since my insurance didn't require that I keep a food journal, I didn't have to, but I understand that some people do. I agree with Christine, Dr. Hartwig is NOT WLS favorable. She said I was too depressed and required me to go to another shrink for another psych exam. By the time I got an appointment and got to see her, I had been using the C-Pap machine for my sleep apnea for a week, and the second doctor said there was no reason for me not to go ahead with the surgery! She said my depression was caused by sleep deprivation, and the machine had stopped that problem. Dr. Whitehead and Janet are wonderful. I feel like my life began February 24, 2005, the date of my surgery.
Hope all goes well for you!
