Well guys I am coming down on my high and I am back in the real world. The world where not alot of stuff works out for me. After years and years of trying and finally geeting a surgury date well now Voc-rehab has decided not to pay for ANY MORE gastric bypass surgries. I don't know what else to do. I guess if I don't find away I will have to leave this wonderful board of people because WLS won't pretain to me I guess. I am sorry I am just really at my wits end here. Does anyone know how much the University charges for self pay????? What about the other any of the other hospitals? (my mom is talking about trying to borrow some money or something) I love you all. Hey Joyce, I don't know if you know it or not but, you can apply for patient financial assistance through the hospital. they won't pay your surgeon's fee but, they usually will pay for your hospitalization.I am going to see if I can get Angie Bea to post her info on this too they paid for her hospitalization too if I am not mistaken.don't give up girl ,there is more than one way to skin a cat as my granny use to say. Hey hun dont sweat it....Just call 601-984-1000 and ask for the patient financial assistance office at the medical mall and ask them to mail you an application or get the directions to exactly where they are in the medical mall (its been a while i cant remember lol) but they will review your income and let you know if you qualify and hun if i can qualify i know you can! you will have to pay for the surgens fees and dr's fees but you can pay monthly on those and that is better than not having it done at all. You have come TOO FAR to give up now, and as sherry said there is MORE THAN ONE WAY TO SKIN A CAT! Email me [email protected] if you need me and I will give you my number so we can talk about what you can try next or give me your number and I will call you. Just DONT give up! I will do everything I can to help you figure out something. Keep your chin up hun theres other ways to get to your goal! luv ya! Angie Bea

Joyce, I am so sorry this has happened. Did they tell you why they are no longer covering WLS? I too was going thru VR and I finally have my consultation visit with the surgeon next Monday. I will call my VR Counselor first thing in the morning and see what is going on! Marci

Joyce; Please don't give up. It is not worth it. Try the self pay thing they may be able to give you a deal. Steph my prayers are with you always.

Hey Joyce, Try not to give up too quick. I "think" I heard one time where the UMC's price was like $20,000. I'm not sure if that is right or not. I also believe that the hospital Dr. Cleveland is at has an outside finance company for WLS. Call them or email Adam. He is listed in the roster of members. I had heard after I got approved through VR or after my surgery that they were not going to cover it any more. Dunno. You know how grape vine talk goes. The reasons that I've heard they stopped paying are.... 1. The state is broke. 2. Too many health problems w/the people after wls. Again like I said all of this could just be grape vine talk. Keep your chin up & Don't give up. Tammy

You've gotten some good advice here Joyce - hang in there! I'm so tired of having to tell you that! It's YOUR turn already! GRRRR I'm so sad for you. I know you are feeling so let-down. Let us know what the hospitals say.... and definately call Adam too. Weigh all the options! HUGS Kimberly

Joyce, Are you going through the vocational rehab from Meridian or Philadelphia? My best friend just called two weeks ago and the lady at voc-rehab told her they would pay, and they even told her what all she needed to do to get the ball rolling. Another friend of mine is also going through voc-rehab and has already went to see Dr. Salameh and had her psych evaluation. If you are not already using the Meridian voc-rehab, maybe it's time for you to (find) a Meridian address, so you can! Good luck with everything! Jackie
