well let me start by saying that i am completely grateful for having my surgery covered by my insurance 16 months ago. my husband worked for a uniform compnay and had great insurance united healthcare. my husband became completely self employed right before the hurricane and we cobraed our insurance till the first of the year and then we applied for self employed ins thru a compnay owned by united healthcare (Golden Rule). well we got the word today that everyone was approved but guess who ME!!! the reason was bc i had gb in the last 5 years. such CRAP! i figured that they would consider it a pre exsisting and not pay for anything that had to do with it. but they denied me completely! they told me that it is a compnay policy to automatically deny anyone that had it within the last 5 years! this sucks! i even ask the women so u would cover me if i was 100lbs over weight though right......and she all but said yes!!!!!! i HATE INS compnies. the people that own them were the ones that paid for it to begin with. and there is no appeal process. so now i have to get so expensive ins for just me for the next 3 1/2 years!!! or get a job at the clinic so they pay for everything!!! its a thought!!i hate this this sucks....i guess now i know how all u preops that cant get ur surgery covered!! crystal

That sucks Crystal... I would be ticked off too. I hope I dont change insurance companies any time soon.I have been with Empire Blue insurance for 6 years. I wish I knew what to tell you. Are you wanting to go back to work? Hburg Clinic does have good insurance if you use their doctors but they wont pay for the surgery either so I wonder if they will pay for your visits with Dr. Whitehead. I dont see him often enough anyway though nowadays.

Hey Crystal, Sorry about the insurance company's policy. Sometimes they work for us, then again they may work against us. And it isn't fair at all. Did they say what was the reason for there being a 5 year after wls waiting period clause ? I know that probably sounds like a crazy question, but I guess I'm just not getting the "why that amount of time". Hope you get coverage soon Tammy
