Well, on the other end of the scale (pun intended) my doc said I should take protein shakes FOREVER - and I find I do better not eating as much and losing weight with them...I am two years out and have 2 a day....(except for lately, I'm not doing ANYTHING right and gaining weight)...D.

I sooo sorry - If you haven't noticed, Dr. King is purty tough on his patients.....I have noticed that lots of the doctors in middle MS want you to get your protein from food...But, even before WLS, I always believed that upping the protein helped me personally lose weight....SO - sorry, I'm no help at all..... PS - congrats with the exercise and stuff though - maybe I'll get inspired. I AM GOING TO GYM TOMORROW or at least TO THE TREADMILL - LOL. DeAnna...

I have some that I will give you. Not to many 12's though, mostly 10's and 8's. I might can find a few 12's. I was in 12's before the hurricane and when I shrunk out of those, I gave them to a lady that works with my Dh that lost everything in the storm and her and her daughter both could wear 12's. I will go through them this weekend and get them to you on Monday if not before. See you soon, Rhonda

I am under the impression that protein drinks are to be phased out by 4 months post-op...Dunno why, other than it make keep you from eating real food. If your protiens are low and you are eating 3 meals a day, then I don't see what would be a problem with drinking them betwixt meals unless it gives you too many calories....Try eating "real" proteins instead....you'll get full faster and stay full longer....for example.... make lunch turkey and cheese rollups....Roll some turkey from the deli around a string cheese....And don't use a wrap or bread or anthing.... That was the same message I got from the nutritionist at Oschners when I went for my last meeting. I did do the shakes for about 2 months when I came home and then it seemed like I was able to eat more food so I stopped them, although the taste was not bad with the Isopure no carb vanilla. I eat a small portion of cheese or string cheese as a snack and that seems to curb some of the munchies as well as having some protein. I still probably do not eat as much protein as I should, but I do eat a lot of green leafy veggies and my blood count was really good. Probably, the best thing is combine lots of protein, cut the carbs way back and do a lot of walking to get the weight going. It seems to help me and I do weigh every morning. If the scale is showing me a bit heavier than I should be, I cut back on the carbs for the day. I have been losing fairly slow but steadly. I found that Tomato juice or V8 can really fill you up too and the calories are very low......

Dawn I am almost 6months out on the 20th. I still drink a protein shake for breakfast because I have a hand full of pills I have to take the most of them have to be taken with food. I cant eat and drink at the same time. So I drink breakfast. I am not a breakfast person never have been but the Chocolate unjury is what I use. I like it. If I didnt drink my breakfast I wouldnt get all my pills down. Maybe email your/our doc and ask him and let us know what he says! Talk to you soon. Amy
