question; what about acrilic nails?
Hey Steph,
Having real finger nails, I'm not really sure about that. I do know that they told me to make sure the polish was off ALL my finger & toe nails. So if I had to guess, I'd say they will probably make you pull them off.
Do you do your own nails ? If not where do you get them done ? I treated myself to a manicure yesterday at La-Maxim after they cut & colored my hair. I sure enjoyed myself.

I know for a fact that my toenails were painted cause i had a pedicure about 3 days before my surgery and she did a french manicure on them. Can not for the life of me remember if my nails were done or not. I am almost positive they were cause I ALWAYS keep nails on. and usually an american manicure on my nails. No one said a word to me. I wanted to wear my wedding rings into surgery and I know they made me take those off. The only reason they say no polish is cause since you are going to be cut open they dont want the chance of nail polish chips inside you. I myself was not concerned about that since they were not doing surgery on my feet or hands. lol lol

Hey, they want your nails clean (no polish), that is something they check all during surgery, whether your nail beds are nice and pink or blue (bad). They also do a test called capillary refill - squeeze your fingertip, then let it go and see how fast the fingertip goes from white to pink (usually less than 2 to 3 seconds), again checking circulation. If something goes wrong with circulation, it shows up first in your peripheries (fingers and toes) because your body will try to compensate by cutting off oxygen to all but the vital organs (lungs, heart, abdominal cavity, brain).
I would ask if you could leave the nails on but the polish off, because I have no idea about that, as long as they are clear nails.
