Need a prayer or two
Hi everyone,
I'm just posting to ask for your prayers. I've felt yucky all day today. Haven't been able to eat anything - barely able to ge****er and Crystal Lite down.
I had a great day yesterday - felt good, no stomach issues. Then I ate the broth from homemade vegetable soup last night. I've learned my new system does not like that stuff!! (This is the 2nd time I've gotten sick the day after eating it.) I won't be trying anymore for awhile. I have had diarrhea, nausea, chills, etc. today. No fever, though. Just been laying around sleeping all day. Thank God it wasn't a work day!
What do y'all do when you have a day like this? I thought I'd just go back to the clear liquid diet, though I wasn't even able to do that. Tried some Atkins Protein shake - got two sips down and that was it. Anyway, just wanted to ask for your prayers and get some advice. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better!
BTW, tomorrow is my one month anniversary since surgery. Can't wait for my daughter to measure me. I'm wearing clothes I had outgrown. How nice!
Love to you all,
Deborah
When I felt like that I did exactly what you said just laid around all day.
Unfortunately we don't get to do that too often. It may take a few days for your tummy to get to feeling better. I would probably just try to keep down as much as you can but don't over do it cause the sooner you get over this the better you will be. And of course I too would stay away from that soup. When I was at that stage I would make Chili and drain the juice and just eat it. I had surgery in Nov. and just wanted something warm and it settled good with me I don't know if it will with you but its an idea anyway. Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers.

Dear Deborah.
First off.. lay off that veggie soup Try some clear broth, just to see if it goes down easier. Actually they sell it in paper containers that are re-sealable at wal mart, very convenient. It isn't the greatest tasting stuff but it's okay. I preferred the beef broth. As for the protein, keep trying. No one expects you to get it all in. The guidelines given to you are what you need to work towards, early out post-op you can't get it all in, it's impossible.
Now you said youre getting diarrhea, nausea, chills, that sounds like dumping to me, if there's no fever. Hmmm. I wonder if you may have a stricture that is making food and liquids hard to pass on through your new stomach.
I would definitely recommend giving the surgeon's office a call to see what they think. Not keeping food down usually means stricture. It's easily fixed with a scoping and very common, it can happen a few weeks after surgery or months, there's no rhyme or reason behind it. And when that little opening swells up , things just won't pass thru till they dilate it again.
I hope you feel better quickly and it clears up over night, if not , please contact your doc and go to see him. No need to suffer like that.

Anything with the least bit of grease or oil KILLS my tum! While I can eat almost everything I cook - I don't use oil or shortening and very little, if any butter or oleo- I will get sick as a dog if I eat the same thing from a resturant or cafeteria....They DO cook with grease and oil, so even if you made it at home the way you used to with the shortening or oil, that could be your trouble. Rich broths are all but impossible for me!

Hi Deborah - first of all, hang in there. I agree with many of our friends - some of what you describe sounds like dumping. Remember that dumping feeling can come from things different than just sugar. For some people the nausea and diarhea can come form very hot or very cold foods, greasy foods, or just about anything.
Shortly after my surgery (03/05) I did alright on the protein drinks for maybe one week - then THEY made be start the battle with dumping syndrome. I started to mix Whey Protein instead of the commercial protein drinks and my problems went away. It is a little different for everyone, it just takes patients and the realization that you have to find your own groove.
Hang in there, james.
