Help!! My family has decided to look at getting an insurance policy outside of the employer. We are adopting and will need to add to insurance, but it is so expensive to add to our policy that we are looking at finding a private insurer. I want Lap Band. Have any of you had luck with which insurances and how easy or hard was it to get approved? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I had BCBS of Tn through Nissan and it really wasn't that hard for me to get approved but other than that I am no help at all. I would expect though all of them will have a pre existing condition and you will probably have to wait a little while. Becky

I file ins for a living and although I am certainly no expert this is what I have come across. Before I had my surgery about a year before to be exact I was thinking of quiting work and was looking into buying ins privately for myself since it was just way too expensive through my dh's employer. Anyway when they asked my weight I was told I would have to lose weight before they would sell me a policy cause I was a risk. Now of course you are not asked these questions when you get a policy via your employer. Anyway I called around to a few more places and lied about my weight but asked specfically about coverage on certain things such as weight loss surgery and fertility treatments. None of these are offered as when you buy a private policy they are concertered elective. Same with my ins at work those two along with plastic surgery are elective. This was just my experience. I hope you have better luck. Denise

I have BCBS Of New York... It was a fight but they paid for it. I think all insurances are different though depending on what you pay for. Good luck to you!

Just to let you know...I have BCBS of Georgia (individual policy), and the WLS surgery is not covered by my insurance. Norma
