Hospital Reviews
I've been thinking about Tammy's ordeal at the hospital (UMC). I was thinking that surely there would have been some questionable reviews on it. I went to see what other people have said, and guess what? Nothing! There is not a single review (that I found) on UMC. I know that is one of the first things I looked at when choosing a doctor. I knew CMMC had issues, but I knew that people had great experiences with them also. I knew going into my surgery what I could possibly expect when staying at the hospital. I felt better prepared, and even though I had some questionable moments - I felt like I couldn't blame anyone else, because I had made the educated decision to be there. I'll add my "plug" and remind everyone that my surgery stay was wonderful. I had NO problems with the bariatric floor. My problems only happened after being readmitted for another reason to another floor.
Now, I'm not trying to "control the board" or make anyone do anything they don't want to do... But I really think these reviews of the surgeons and hospitals are important. If you haven't placed your review and you are post-op, especially UMC people, please if you get a chance, do it. This is just a little thing we can do to help the newbies out.

I have gone and done a review on the hospital where I was for my surgery. I was at Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. That was not my first dealing with that hospital. I am from Alabama and have had experiences with several hospitals in the Mobile area due to my first child being sickly. My surgeon does the surgery at three of the hospitals in Mobile, and I got to choose which one I wanted. I knew I wanted Providence because in my experience they are cleaner and better staffed and take better care of their patients. But you are right not everyone would know that. So I did go and fill out a review so that someone having surgery in Mobile that maybe doesn't know alot about the health care there can do research and make an informed choice. I never noticed that hospital review section before. That is something we all need to do for the others coming behind us. Good idea.

I totally agree. I have did my hospital review of CMMC and I too can say I had a few probs but mainly with the nurses not the cleanliness. CMMC is a good bariatric hospital I do believe. They are just understaffed.( like most hospitals are) I guess I was a lucky one since my wife( who is also a nurse) stayed with me the whole time that I was in the hospital. So if I had a major prob she was able to help me or get me the help I needed.
I have to say that even with my probs and that I scared my Dr a time or two, that I would do it all over again in a heartbeat and would use the same hospital and deff use Dr Cleveland over again he saved my life and I thank God for him every day.
I feel that some folks really need to have more mental prepairedness about all the possibilities of the surgery. I posted all my complications and talk about them whenever I talk to anyone about the surgery. It is a real fact that this surgery does have alot of major complications that can come with it. And it is a fact that more folks have complications than those that dont. I dont try to sugar coat it at all. I tell everyone to make sure that this is really what they want and that they research it and the hospitals all they can. It really is a major decision.
I feel that everyone thinking about it has an obligation to themselves to really search out the whole process including hospitals and mortality rates. I know it is hard to find this info but it can be done. Ok that is my 2 cents. Cant wait to see everyone in Morton.

Hey Kimberly
I agree that it's important to do the hospital review. It can only help prepare the soon-to-have-surgery patients evaluate and weigh their options. As with any hospitals, things can either go really good or really bad, there are many people out there who've had horrorstories and others were pleased. Never know till you go in yourself and it's ALWAYS best to be ready for the worst case scenario.
I myself had my RNY surgery at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero/ New Orleans westbank and can only praise them. Since I had such a pleasant experience, I again chose them for my medical care this time when I had my gallbladder removed and other than a quickly fixed mix-up with the paperwork, they were wonderful and very attentive and clean. No problems there .
I also feel that everyone should go do a review on their surgeon and his team/office personnel . That can be another decision point for someone who's in doubt. My surgeon was relatively new at RNY but had been a surgeon for years and he did an awesome job on all patients so far. The warnings I got from others before surgery ( you know.. "get someone who's done a lot of surgeries, he'll be less likely to mess you up" ) were totally unfounded and biased. Couldn't have chosen a better surgeon, if you ask me
Take care everyone and God Bless!!
