Hi everyone, Just thought I would report in. I'm doing good most of the time. I'm having a little stomach tenderness. Tried some cream of asparagus soup today. It tasted wonderful, but soon afterward had me running for the bathroom. I'm still getting my strength back - probably doing too much - but rest when I'm able. I'm having more trouble with my back hurting than anything - mostly in the morning. I'm also having trouble getting all my meds down. I can't hardly take the iron pills. They are GROSS!! Everything else, I can tolerate, but those I'm having trouble with. Any suggestions? Also, how do you get all the protein in at this stage? I'm drinking 1/2 an Atkins protein drink twice a day, plus eating/drinking the other things on the liquid diet. I don't see how in the world I'd ever get all the protein in. What are others doing? Oh, I saw progress in my clothes today. I wore an outfit my mom and given me that I had quit wearing because it was too tight. It now fits perfectly! Praise God! May God bless you all! Ick on the iron pills. I take a multiviitamin that has 100% of daily required iron and calcium - called Bone Smart from Dollar General. HUGE pills. I break them in half. You CAN'T get all the protein in. It is a goal that you are to work towards! Get in as much as you can without over stressing your tummy with over-eating - like that can happen now!!! You'd barf first! So glad you are seeing progress! Smoochies Arlies

Deborah are you taking the Flintstones with iron? Those are ok with me. And are you straining out the gunk from the soup? That is very important. I pretty much stayed to runny mashed potatoes for a good bit. Don't worry about all the protein now, he knows you can't get it in at this point, just do the best you can. Sue 273/261/199/150

Hey Deborah... Souds like things are progressing like normal. Its very hard at this stage to get your protein in and practically impossible. Just keep trying... It may take you some time to figure out what you can and cant tolerate. Its different for everyone. I was one of the "unlucky" ones who tolerated just about anything. You are doing really well - so keep it up.

Thanks for the advice! I am supposed to be taking the Flintstones vitamins with Iron, but being the cheapskate I am, I bought a cheaper kind that didn't have iron. I figured I'd get the iron from the iron pills. (That was before I tasted them! YUCK!) Guess I'll call Dr. King and see what they say. I guess the iron in the my blood was low in the hospital, so that's why he put me on supplemental iron. I just don't think I can tolerate it. It's like swallowing a mouth full of metal or something. Yuck again! Thanks for reminding me about straining out the food particles from the soup. I did that the first few days, then got lazy and just chewed them good and ate them. Guess I'd better take a step back and start straining them again. (At least my daughter loved the soup. Of course, she had to have cheese melted in hers! Lucky dog! Ha!) I want to tell y'all how much I appreciate you all. It is wonderful to have this forum to ask questions and post comments, rather than having to call the doctor's office with every little question. You guys are great!!! Hope you have a wonderful day! I've got to go pick up my kitty that I had spayed at the vet and then go to work. Talk to you soon! Deborah 284/243/135

Hey hun, I had surgery with Doc King about two years ago. Staff is the greatest....You can be cheap with the vitamins, just go to Walmart and buy their brand of children's chewables with iron, around 3.95 or $4 something. That's what I have been taking ever since. I think Dr. King gives you multivitamins with iron as a standard, not necessarily because you were low in the hospital (although you could have been). It is just one of the things that we tend to get low on. You sound good though, it just takes a few more weeks to get adjusted, not nauseated and such and more energy as you get in more and more protein...Hang in there! D.
