MANY QUESTIONS, NEW TO THIS
Hi Jimmie... I think most of us on the MS board had RNY... So, I dont know much about the lab-band. I do know that if you have an excessive amount of weight to lose the lab-band may not be the right choice. We had a lady in our support group and she was 18 mos out and had only lost like 60 pounds and has stopped losing. I am not dogging your choice, like I said, I dont know that much about it. I think its mostly for people who want to lose 50-80 pounds.
I would talk to your doctor first and weigh your options and let him refer you to someone who can get the ball rolling.
Good luck on your journey... its very hard sometimes...
Greetings Jimmie,
I am a 9 year post op patient from a Non-adjustable Gastric Banding (Molina). I lost 200# but have regained 50# the last 5 years. The Band is a fairly good weight loss tool. Dr. Horacio Oria in Houston, Texas (713) 468-2525 is one of the few doctors in the Southeast that performs this surgery. Jean, his nurse, has been my nurse the last 9 years and would be glad to talk to you. SHE IS GREAT and very honest with her answers. My surgery was also covered by regular insurance.
Currently, I am awaiting insurance approval for a RNY Revision through Dr. Cleveland. It is much more involved but has much more stringent routines to conform to compared to the lap band that after time, can be manipulated and adjusted to allow weight gain. Don't get me wrong, any weight loss tool (surgery) is not 100% effective...you must learn to control your eating and habits and comply to it's rules and regulations.
Hope this information helped.

Hey Jimmie! I live in Brandon, too! Up by the reservoir in Bridgewater apts. Welcome to the family. We will give you all the help you can stand!!!!!! There is also a group out of Covington, LA that has fantastic seminars every month or two in Jackson. Their web site is whyweightnow.com or something to that effect. That have 5 docs devoted to WLS and they do all kinds of surgery and it is more affordable (yeah, right - anything over 2 bucks in outta my league!!!) than most of the places if you are having to self-pay. I am impressed by them.
Come often and post long!!!
