AN OFFER YOU CAN'T REFUSE!!!!!!!!
Is there anybody out there that is STILL having surgery in the Jackson area after Tams/Sybil let the cats out of the bag about her experience at the hospital????????? (I love you Tams)
PLEASE, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE SOMEONE WITH YOU DURING YOUR HOSPITAL STAY - DAY AND NIGHT- THAT IS EXTREMELY VOCAL IF THE NEED ARISES......IF YOU DO NOT HAVE SOMEONE AND WILL HAVE SURGERY IN THE JACKSON AREA, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I CAN AND WILL MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO STAY AT NIGHT (THE WORST TIMES FOR PATIENTS) OR ANYTIME THAT YOU NEED ME. THIS IS NOT AN IDLE OFFER. I WILL DO THIS!!!!!!!
I truly hate and regret the lack of treatment that our dear Tammy got during her hospital stay. THANK GOD FOR JOHNNY OR IT COULD AND WOULD HAVE BEEN WORSE!!!!! THAT MAN REFUSED TO LEAVE HER SIDE UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE WAS THERE - AND THEN HE ONLY LEFT FOR ESSENTIAL NEEDS - IE FOOD.
Having this surgery is a very hard thing, physically and emotionally, but in the long run it is totally worth it. If I can make your hospital stay better, I will do what I can. You are all my dearest family and I want it to go well for everyone.
So if you need me, here I am.....Just please let me know as long in advance as possible.....BTW, I have one of those rare and wonderful husbands that truly understand and will not have a problem with me helping out. He KNOWS that I have these needs to mother everyone and make everything as easy as I can for all - in fact, he has experienced this himself!!!!
I am here if you need.

Arlies,
That is an extremely generous offer. And I agree that a person is needed 24/7. I don't know what I would have done without my cousin. Infact, when I was re-hospitalized and didn't have anyone - it was sheer hell. The hospital was understaffed and just really made me feel like they didn't give a damn. I waited one nite for OVER 3 hours with a morphine pump, IV, and blood transfusion all beeping at me. The kicker was I was right beside the nurses station and could hear them out there talking, and I'd call and call, and NOTHING. My particular nurse was extremely busy - he was sweating when he came in to check on me, but no one else stepped up to the plate to help him out. I was SO pissed - for HIM and for myself. I had to have new IV's everyday because I have bad veins and no one took care of the IV's I had. The special team had to be called each time and they were pissed off for me. Even they had to make several sticks each time trying to find a good enough vein.
Another time I needed to go to the bathroom, and could barely walk. I called the nurse, no one came. I finally made it to the bathroom on my own, and figured at least someone would come and help me back to bed. Well, I sat in the bathroom for over 20 minutes and no one came. So I inched my way back to bed, fell and hurt my arm trying to get into the bed, etc etc... It was the worst experience I've ever had.
Seems that this has been a concern or actual problem for alot of people. The medical field in general has become so paperwork intensive that the care of the patient is suffering. It's very frustrating.
So, after all this venting...my advice also is to always have an advocate there for you if at all possible. I'm sure there are several of us on here who could, and would step up to the plate for any of our WLS friends.

Ditto here. I can and will be very glad to stay with ANYONE having surgery especially in UMC, because it can be a much more pleasant (if surgery can be pleasant) experience. PLEASE do not feel bad about asking, because I know the three of us and many others would be glad to stay or shift between us, and we know what it is like. So, thanks Arlies for the offer and the idea.....That's what SUPPORT GROUP is all about, actually doing something sometimes, and being a shoulder to lean on. I love this group!
Arlies and DeAnna,
Those are very generous offers that you have extended to the MS members. Hospitals can be so nerve wracking, and to have that kind of experience that Tams/Sybil experience is ABSOLUTELY and TOTALLY unreal!! Thank you for being a good friend to all the pre-op patients. Just wanted to voice my opinion....

I dont know what i would have done without my momma being there...she kept them straight and if we couldnt get someone to help she did it all herself...she changed my bed, bathed me as much as she could, got me up to walk....EVERYTHING!!!! even dr. S said she needed to be on the payroll....I am sooo thankful she was there!! so i know exactly what Tams went thru cause thats the way I was treated too....no one anywhere in sight when ya needed them..
