Last appt. before surgery

Hi everyone! Well, I had my last appt. with Dr. King before surgery. Wow! I can't believe I'm really doing this. He went over the risks again and answered my questions. He was very nice. I had lost 10 lbs. since I was last in his office. That means I've lost 16 lbs. since my highest weight. That's exciting. (It's amazing what a stomach virus and a liquid diet can do! Ha!) I've done good on the liquid diet today. I think the secret to success for me is to stay busy. It does seem to be getting a little easier. Maybe my stomach is shrinking. Dr. King said he recently started making all his patients get on a two-week liquid diet before surgery. He said it was amazing what a difference it made when it came to getting under the liver to the stomach, and it seemed the patients were doing better. After the doctor's visit, I had the pre-op bloodwork, an EKG, and a chest X-ray. I'm ready to get this over with and get on with my new life. My emotions have been all over the place. I've been excited, scared, numb, etc. I'm back to excited now. I pray all will go well and there will be no complications. I told Dr. King that he would be well prayed for the day of surgery and, even now, was being prayed for. He seemed pleased and said you can never get enough prayers. BTW, if anyone is interested, I would love to have an angel prior to surgery. Thanks! Deborah Open RNY 9/23/05

I am excited for you. The liquid diet before and after surgery are the absolute worst. But are very worth it. Your gonna do great. All your emotions are completely normal. We have all been there. You will be fine.

Deborah, To have an you have to ask someone who is post op. E-mail them and ask. I picked mine because she has a sense of humor but wouldn't let me get away with much! You need a "Dutch Uncle" or someone who will tell you when you're wrong. Better do it today, cause your day is coming up fast. Tomanip

Thanks for your replies! BTW, I got a call yesterday from Dr. King's office. I had been told after the EGD that I would have to have open surgery because I have a big liver and an apple-shaped body. After my visit with Dr. King Tuesday, he told his nurse that he thought he could perform my surgery laproscopically. Yea!! Please pray that he will be able to do that. I need to recover as soon as possible. Deborah
