Cheryl Lee.....Salad Report!

I just got back from the surgeon's office. When asked about salad, the nut. said I can have 1-2 small bites of fruit OR veggie once per day. She wants me off all protein drinks within a month (How???). Also, gotta limit the peanut butter - too much fat. Also, I can replace a meal with a protein bar as long as the calories aren't too bad. Otherwise, everything's looking good. They were pleased with my progress. Rebecca

That is a good report! Fruit is really easy on my pouch, veggies are pretty easy. Peaches, grapes, watermelon are all good to me. I have not been able to do protein drinks so I have to get as much as I can a day in through food. I eat the Power Crunch Vanilla Protein Bar, it only has 14 grams of protein but only has 180 calories, which is less than a lot of them and to me it tastes like sugar wafers. Peanut Butter does have a lot of fat in it, they make natural peanut butter that does not have all of the additives in it, maybe check into that. I have not checked to see what the fat content and stuff is in that kind. Keep up the good work! Rhonda

Hi Rhonda: Thanks for the reply. I just got my shipment of the small sampler of Power Crunch Bars in today and just finished 1/3 of the choc/peanut butter. Pretty good! That'll help on my protein intake today Are you able to get in 60 gms of protein most days?

I usually get in the 50's and my doctor said that is fine. He said 60 gms is a lot to ask anyone for. So just do the best that you can, just remember to eat protein first at every meal. When you do salad, put tuna or chicken in it, that will add a little protein. I use the unjury vanilla protein supplement and add it to my pudding for dessert some nights. I add it to milkshakes and stuff, I can't taste it much. Will you be joining us for lunch in Hattiesburg tomorrow? Rhonda

Thanks! I guess that I have been bad then. I have been eating Watermelon and other melon for the past couple of weeks, it goes down with no problem and my stomach feels comfortable. I have been eating squash cooked to mush too and a little creamed potato. They did tell me to wean off the protein drinks, I have 1 1/2 scoops now but one scoop in two weeks and then just half a scoop. But I have read that when you are not doing good with food, pouch hurting, you need to drop back to liquids and the shakes, (But this did not come from Oschners Nut.) They told me pnut butter was a no no, go figure that??? But lately I tried it and it didnt agree with me. So, I guess that I will just wait for salad and try it in a couple of months. You know I feel that the nutritionist should have books of recipes and lists that state exactly which foods you can have and when. It would be a lot less worry than guessing! I am so glad that you are doing well! How much have you lost? I will bet it is a lot! Cheryl

So far, I've lost 53 - whi*****ludes the two week preop diet. I'm satisfied with that. Oh - I also got to start swallowing small pills today. I was so glad! I was so tired of the yucky taste of crushed meds. I wonder why they told you six months?? I've tried watermelon and apple, which did really well, but I reckon I'll lay off that for a while until I can get in all my protein first - EXCEPT on days when I just need a change!! Nobody's perfect, right?! Rebecca
