Ounces vs Ounces

Hey yall... Was just curious about something... If you eat 1/2 cup of vegetables (measured in a measuring cup) that may only weigh 2 ounces on the scale - do you count this as 2 ounces or 4 ounces? Do you measure by weight or volume? Popcorn can weigh 2 ounces for 5 bags but measure out to be 12 cups... what should we be looking at - focusing on.. Does this sound silly?

That is a good and confusing question. I would think that anything that has volume to it, such as meat and veggies that you would measure them using your scale. Things like popcorn you should just measure by cup. Just have to use whatever seems to work. Hope this helps.. See you Thursday! Rhonda

Meats are measured by weight using a scale and most other stuff by cup and liquids in a measuring cup per ounce. That is what I have been told anyways. Hope that helped. Melissa

If you eat half a cup of vegetables but chew it up -by the time its chewed up it could only be 1 or 2 ounces.... I beez confrused... Oh well... I ask because I am trying to figure what I need to use when I am measuring food. I have that scale and have been putting everything on the scale but it seems like alot of food. 2-3 ounces of meat and then 1/4 cup of green beans, and a 1/4 cup of squash is a lot of food. So what you are saying is I should use my scale for the meat and my measuring cups for everything else??

You use the scales for meat and the cups for everything else unless the serving size indicated in the nutritional information indicates to measure by weight. If you weigh veggies that could be a whole lot of food. Melissa

I think I'd go by VOLUME! Since you definitely don't want to eat 12 cups of popcorn! Actually the density of the food does make a difference. Eat 1/2 cup of veggies and 1/2 cup of popcorn and I think you'll find the veggies fill you up, but the popcorn doesn't.... Smoochies Arlies

The only thing measured by weight is meat - as it is VERY dense. Most other foods when pureed will fit into a liquid measure and come close to equaling the weight of the measurement. Keep in mind a couple of things (if you want lol): Your pouch doesn't have a scale weighing food as it comes down. It is filled by volume. Something like a vegetable measured in a 1/2 cup is typically loose packed and not a dense measurement. Popcorn when measured by ounces is a measure of the "kernals" not the popped corn. So 2 ounces of popcorn is for 2 ounces of kernals. HTH, Toots
