BLOOD CLOTS
FREDRICA, I HAD A BLOOD CLOT 2 MONTHS AGO. I WAS POST-OP FROM WLS AND HAD STARTED MY EXERCISE PROGRAM. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THAT I HAD PULLED A MUSCLE IN MY THIGH MUSCLE. THE PAIN FAILED TO GO AWAY AFTER SEVERAL DAYS, IN FACT IT GOT WORSE. I WAS MOST COMFORTABLE WITH MY LEG ELEVATED. AFTER ABOUT THE THIRD DAY OF PAIN, I CALLED MY SURGEON'S NURSE AND SHE SAID THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE AN ULTRASOUND DONE OF THE LEG. I WENT TO THE ER, HAD THE TEST, AND WAS ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR 3 DAYS. I WAS STARTED ON BLOOD THINNERS AND PAIN PILLS. I COULD ONLY GET OUT OF BED TO GO TO THE BATHROOM. A BLOOD CLOT IN THE LEG IS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE IT CAN BREAK AWAY FROM THE WALL OF THE BLOOD VESSEL AND TRAVEL THROUGH YOUR BLOODSTREAM. IF IT GOES TO YOUR HEART OR LUNGS, IT CAN BE FATAL. IF YOU ARE STILL IN PAIN, GO TO THE ER AND GET IT CHECKED OUT....AND DO NOT WAIT. HOPE EVERYTHING IS OK. LET US KNOW. JANICE
Hi Fredrica,
A blood clot can feel like a really bad charlie horse also. As someone here said, do the Homan's test... where you flex your foot upwards... this is not 100% accurate as far as finding them, sometimes you may have one even if you don't have the pain.... when you do that, if you feel a sharp pain in your calf, then go to the er asap.
Good luck and Hugs,
Connie
Fredrica,
I had a blood clot after my C-Section with my youngest son. It was very painful and felt like a charlie horse that wouldn't go away. I knew it was serious when it woke me up at night and my leg hurt worse than my C-Section. It was also swollen and on some people it also looks red and has fever in it.
I Amen what everyone else has said. Go to the ER! Don't play around with that!!
Let us know what happens! I'll be praying for you!
