Hi Amy, I just got in from vacation but I had to respond to you. I had a great deal of pain post-op from muscle spasms in my side and back. My surgeon told me that was not uncommon with LapRNY because the incisons pierced the muscles, and in the abdominal area, the muscles wrap around to the side and back. She explained that the opposite end of the injured muscle was spasming in response to the injury in the front. Injured in the front, pain felt in my back. I hope this makes sense. Muscle relaxers helped me tremendously. I think I would have to say I would have not had any pain from the surgery if it hadn't been for the trapped air and muscle spasms. They were terrible. Talk to your doc and maye he/she will prescribe Flexoril (muscle relaxer that worked for me). They made me sleepy but worked. My spasms lasted about 3-4 weeks. Hope this helps, Elesha

I was okay after about two weeks, I think. But I woke up hollering in the hospital because of muscle spasms in my left side. I swore Dr. Mann had stomped on my liver, but he told me the liver is on the other side and that it was the SPLEEN he had stomped on. Call your doc. He needs to know if you feel your pain is excessive. Let us know! Smoochies Arlies

I did call my doc I talked to his nurse she said that it is normal and just to tough it out. It is normal to have the spasms due to the trauma on the muscle healing on my left side. I am doing the heat and ice. I didnt bother to take the tylenol doesnt help. Just gotta suck it up. Thanks for your support. Today was a bit better than yesterday the nights are the worst cant get comfortable laying down.

I disagree with what the nurse told you! If your pain is the way you told me that it was, you need to be seen. I can almost guarantee that they hit a nerve and the only way to get that to quit hurting quick is to get the shot that they gave me. You can wait it out, but you could be waiting weeks if not months for it to heal. The steroidal shot they gave me helped the tissue grow back around the nerve quicker so that they pain would go away. You may want to check into it. I hope you feel better soon! Rhonda
