New to Mississippi

I have recently relocated to Jackson, MS....I will be a teacher at one of the high schools. I am making my selections for health insurance. Can anyone - preferably any educators, tell me which insurance carrier I should select which might cover WLS? Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Paula... Welcome to the MIssissippi Board... I would not select BC of MS they will not pay a dime. I do not know what all you have to choose from but I hear BC of Alabama will pay. I had BC of NY... Check the policys if you can before you choose.

HI PAULA!! Welcome to the board. We're very active here, very supportive and we LOVE to help each other in whichever way we can. I can't help much with the insurance, but I know for sure BCBS of MS doesn't cover squat. Make sure you contact the insurance BEFORE you make a decision to choose them, that there's no exclusion for WLS. Unfortunately, as some insurers are adding it to their coverage, others are taking it off, so check with them long-term also, just in case they decide to remove it after 1-1-06. Ok .......uhmmmm...... Never mind, I just realized that your profile says Calhoun LA.. duhh.. please excuse me, I'm just tired today, drove all the way to New Orleans and back with NO AIRCONDITIONING and I think the heat has affected me somehow hehehehe

I am a teacher in MS and have been in several school systems. I have never had a choice of which insurance to take. It is state BCBS and it will not cover this surgery. I had to go through Vocational Rehab to have my surgery. Good luck and welcome to the area. Which HS will you be teaching in? Kitsy

Blue Cross Blue Shield of MS will not pay anything!!! I never had a choice of insurance when I was hired. I glad you get a chance to chose. Welcome to Mississippi. I am a School Counselor in Jones County School District. Sonya Sumrall

Hi, What ever you do don't choose BC BS of MS they won't even hear of paying all they say is NO NO NO. Even though I have had 5 doctors write them letters. Good luck Joyce
