Oldie but a Newby
Dear Joy,
you'll find that most of us still have the little devil on our shoulder, saying " why not just have one bite of this ". The surgery didn't change our way of thinking, and it's really hard to do it "right" every single day. Beating yourself up doesn't help you though, only making changes in your diet will guarantee your success in the long run. I , too, was a coke-aholic and boy was it hard to give that up.
I am completely off the carbonated drinks, and now, one year later, I don't even care any more. I think I finally got my brain trained to not needing it or wanting it. Thank Goodness!
We're all here to discuss these problems and try to find ways to help, it's a good thing to attend the meetings and post here, I promise I'll never flame you for eating something you shouldn't have, I'll try to help to get you to better habits though. We're not perfect. Nobody is, and those who say they "never" eat anything they shouldnt have, are either lying to themselves or aren't being realistic.
You can't possibly every single day do everything right, there will be times you just can't !! I have days where I 'm on the road with my family and I refuse to make them go out of their way for me. I will just try to eat where they eat and possibly alter the way the food's prepared and eat with them ( e.g. McDonalds )
Instead of the big mac, I'll have a grilled chicken or homestyle burger, take one bun off, light the mayo and there u go, much better than a sloppy dressing-smothered burger! So welcome to our group, we are glad to have you and we'll get you through this. You've got a tool that will help you, and with lots of water, exercise and US, you'll get to your goal!!

Andie,
Thank you so much for your reply! I had a tough day yesterday and I needed encouragement this morning!
It's funny that you mention McDonalds and doing things with your family because that's exactly what I did yesterday (I'm posting another message confessing and asking for help!). We went thru the McDonalds drive-thru to get the kids something on the way home and boy did I want a burger, but I didn't! (Victory I guess!) I ordered a Bacon Ranch grilled chicken salad instead. But I did other things that weren't that good.
Like you said though, I'm not going to beat myself up! As I'm typing this I'm sitting here eating my bowl of Fibre One and will have a protein drink before church. (I didn't do this yesterday because I didn't have "time"-and I paid for it all day!)
It was so nice hearing from you! You look great by the way! How long since your surgery and how much have you lost?
I hope you hear from you and meet you soon!
Thanks again!
