Hey everyone, I walked 1 1/2 miles, today. This is my 15 day since surgery. I have been drained of energy all day. I am going to go to bed early and see if I can get caught up on much needed rest. Sonya Sumrall Please do not let me get lazy!!!

You are doing good. You are fresh out from surgery. Your energy level will get better, I promise. But you are doing good going ahead and making exercise apart of your life now. Let's see. I had a great workout tonight. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine and burned 360 calories. Then I went and did about 30 minutes of weights. Then I went and did some resistance stuff in the pool while my kids swam. Christine was with me so the time flew by so fast. We had fun and Catherine loves to go to the Y when her Emily will be there. Emily is Christine's little girl. Catherine loves her. But they fight like sisters. It is funny. Makes it easier to get a workout done when the kids are happy playing. Melissa P.S. I like having to post this at night. It makes me get moving. Don't let me get lazy either, Sonya.

Melissa, I was going to bed early when a friend called. She needed a walking partner so I went. We walked another 3 miles. All total for today I walked a little over 4 miles. After I walked the second time, I had MORE energy. How long did you wait before working out at the gym? Sonya

I was cleared to work out at the gym at 6 weeks out as long as I did no abdominal exercises or leg weight training that may pull the abs. I started back doing abdominals and leg weights at about 3 months out. My surgery was done LAP so not so much of a risk for hernia. I think the ones with open incisions have to wait longer before doing abs. But I got back on my elliptical machine at 6 weeks out. Melissa

Wow! I am so impressed. I can't imagine doing that much walking so soon after surgery! The only time I like to walk is when we go hiking at Grenada Lake. I hope I can develop a love for exercise. I did work out at a gym with a personal trainer for about 9 mos in 2003-04 and my stamina was much better, but I lost no weight. I kept eating the same. What a waste! Oh well. One step at a time. One day at a time. I'm proud of you, Deborah

I did not do 30 minutes on the eliptical but I did do 4 minutes. Thats more than the last time. I rode 4 miles on the bike waiting on exercise queen to finish on the eliptical. I did mostly the same weight training as she did but I had to drop my weight down 10 pounds or so from hers. The girl is a freak at the gym. She can hang with the best of them. You are doing great on your walking so soon out of surgery. Dont wear yourself out though. Its easy to do right now!!

Melissa, Deborah, and Christine, I will try not to over do it but I am so excited and my energy level is so much better than it was before surgery. It is very hard for me to remember to take it easy. I think I am going to wait until at least 3 months out before I start the gym because there are so many of us walking that they keep me motivated to continue exercising. Thanks for cheking in each night!!! Sonya Sumrall COME ON EVERYONE, JOIN US IN POSTING EXERCISE FOR EACH DAY.
