Hello everyone! Was wondering is anyone still seeing Dr. Whitehead post-op? I'll be 2 yrs. out next Tuesday. I haven't gone back to see him in over 6 mths. mostly due to haven't lost anymore weight in over 6 mths. Do I need to?

Hey Tina. My surgery was aug 17th, 04 and I still see dr W. I think he told me once I get a years out he will only see me about twice a year and then release me. So to answer your questions yes you need to see him. They check your blood to make sure your body is holding in the proper amount of nutrients. Dont feel bad about not losing any weight I have been at a stand still for about 5 weeks now. Just your bodys way of saying it has caught up. The weight will continue to come off just not near as fast. Now is the time to really be working towards your goal. I think the first 6 months out of surgery we should be preparing ourselves on how to eat and exercise and drinking our water so that when our appetites come back we are prepared. Best of luck to you and get your butt to the dr for a check up! Love ya Denise

I strongly recommend calling Janet and asking her. I am sure they will want to see you. Do not worry about not losing because they (if you are interested) can probably hook you up with Dr. Carsons or Ann Blackwell at Renassaince. I have been back to see him post op. Its been very helpful. I went at 4 months and took him my fitday log of what I was eating... I had him critique it. If you want to get those pounds dropping again you need to see Dr. Whitehead and have your levels checked and see about getting in to see Dr. Carsons. I believe he could get you on a schedule or some sort of track to help continue to weight loss. Dont give up...

I have already seen Dr. Carson. It's been about a month ago. I do see my personnal physician quite regularly, trying to get my thyroid meds regulated. Last visit to PP he upped my thyroid meds. He said hopefully it will kick start my weight loss again. Who knows??? Last October I think was the last time I saw Dr. Whitehead, he then did a ultra sound on my stomach to see if there was a problem, being I thought I was eating too much. Everything was fine then. I've been thinking about plastic surgery. Do you think it is to soon? I'm still 100lbs to goal.

No, I do not think it is too soon. How much of that weight would you consider skin? I was 9 mos out when he referred me to Dr. Pecunia. I am personally not quite ready for it mostly because I cant get the time off until 2006. But... I am at goal. There is another girl in our meeting and she still needs to lose but she did have skin removal. It wouldnt hurt to talk to him about it. Was Dr. Carsons any help to you? Did you have an endoscopy thing (I think thats what its called) to check the size of your pouch and to make sure all is OK??

Christine, Dr. Carson was some help. Before, I was focused on carbs, as I understood him, I now need to be more focused on calories. As to excess skin, as I see it I do have a large pannis. Was talking to husband last night, he still thinks I need to lose a lot more before plastics. I looked at myself in the mirror this morning, reached down and lifted up my belly, it feels sooo heavy. I think I would look so much better without it and to imagine my clothes would look better too! As to the endoscopy....I dranked some gross alka-seltzer stuff to bloat my stomach and then they took x-rays. It was a very bad experience . Then Dr. Whitehead said it looked o.k. but I am still skeptical about it. But if he says I look fine, then so be it. The last WLS meeting I wanted to talk to the girl who had plastics done, but was pushed for time, so I didn't stay and chat. Maybe, next meeting I can catch up to her and ask some questions. Thanks for your reply
