Hello, My name is Ed and Im 40 years old I have been watching from the sidelines for some time now but I now have my date scheduled.16 Aug. I have a few questions as to what routine I should now be trying to develop prior to WLS, I am concerned about drinking lots of water and getting dehydrated... I will start upping the water and living with a bottle in my hand. What else does everone recomend doing? I will be on schedule for loosing weight to shrink my liver as talked about, so Im happy with that.. What else should I start doing? My Surgery will be at Keesler.. Looking for any and all advise... Im proud of all of you for sharing as you do, I am nothing short of overwhelmed Thanks Ed

Learning how to eat without drinking. That, to me, is one of the hardest things to do. Best of luck to you and welcome to the boards. You will have most of your questions answered if you will ask!! Kitsy

Ed, I "watched from the sidelines" myself And just read the posts and replies of others Prior to my surgery. I wish I had been more active Because I would have gotten more out of the site. Drop your surgery date into your "profile" So that others can give you more specific support As your date draws near. This place has multiple forums and message boards And I tend to drop by all of them. Here on the Mississippi State Board You'll find others that had their surgery at Keesler. And lots of support and prayers for your success. The Main Message Board at- http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/messageboard/ Has a broad range of information and dropping a question out there Gives you access to the whole nation of responses. There is a "Men's Message Board" at- http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/amosforums/men/ That specifically addresses WLS issues that are unique to us Guys. Take a look at- http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/messageboard/postdetail/1376629.html?vc=0 It's a post to help new folks find their way around and It has some tips on how to get the "Most out of AMOS." Glad to have you here! Best Wishes- Dx

Hi Ed, and welcome to the board. Nice to see more folks down here on the coast Of course you need to follow your surgeon's instructions. One of the things mine recommended, was getting a head start on protein. I was told building up the albumin levels would help my body heal faster. Hey, it couldn't hurt, right? Otherwise, try to just cut back < or eliminate > sugar and high carbs, and if you drink sodas, especially caffeine, reduce them now. Caffeine headaches are the worse. The withdrawal can be cruel Good luck on your WLS journey!! ~Andie~

Hi Ed, Did you get to go the nutritional clinic at Keesler ? Dr. Dolan sent me and it was very helpful. My surgey is August 24. Were you at the last meeting at Keesler? Wanda

Hi Ed, Glad you have joined us. My doctor did not have alot of pre-op instructions. However, I started drinking Body for Life protein drinks from Wal-mart several times a day. My reasoning was I wanted to make sure that I could eat from a different mind set when everyone around me was eating what I considered to be great foods. If I would have had a strong desire to cheat and eat the other foods, I did not think I could be successful for the long-term. Luckily, I did not cheat and went through surgery on July 14th. I am so glad I had the surgery. I will keep you in my prayers. Good Luck, Sonya Sumrall
