After waiting for 10 months. I have a date for surgery of August 24. But it is going to be a open procedure. So now I have time to worry about the 9 month old { not being able to pick him up },and all the support I will need . My husband is in the Navy and the ship ins't happy about my surgery. Wanda

Congrats on getting your date and welcome to the board. Try not to worry yourself to much. Things will move along just fine and before you know it you will be able to pick him up again. The navy will get over it you have to what is best for you. Good luck with your surgery. Becky

Wanda congrats about your date. My husband is in the Navy too. He is stationed at Stennis and I am very lucky his work is really cool about him taking leave to take care of me. The Navy might not be happy with your surgery but the President signed the family leave act so they have to let him off to take care of you and the baby. They dont have a choice. How long has your husband been in? Mine has been in almost 15 years. Glad you have a date that is awesome. Amy

I think the 'ship' will get over it. You will need his support and for him to be at home. This is medically nessecary and you will need time to recover. You will not be able to pick your baby up unless you want a hernia.... Congrats on getting your date. I know you are thrilled. Its just around the corner!!

No Thanks I don't want any more hernia. That's one of the reasons I have to have the open type. I asked my husband how they could give him such a hard time when Dr Dolan wrote a letter saying it was medically nessecary. Wanda

Mr doctor only does them open so that is how mine was too.. Did you have a hernia before or something? Does having it open reduce the risk of hernias? I didnt get one but I was surprised because I did lift a little more than I should have. I went back to work after 2 weeks. Felt great...

I have a hernia and scar tissue from doing another surgery four years ago that went very wrong . Well the hernia is from trying to do to much after a surgery. As they say lesson learned. I hope I will feel great too.

Congratulations, Wanda. I am happy for you. I am sorry the Navy isn't quite so happy. They will get over it. You have to take care of you because no one else will. You are doing this to save your life. Just relax and everything will work out fine. And if you need to vent or need some support you have us to lean on. We are here for you if you need us. Good luck and please keep us posted on things. Melissa Taylor
