Anyone denied by Ins. seek different Insurance Company to cover WLS?

I work for the State, so they will not cover WLS for any reason what so ever. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and decided to find an insurance company that would cover WLS? If so how long did you have to wait before you were able to apply for the surgery? I am just trying to weigh all my options...... Thanks! Marci

Hey, Marci. I, also, have BCBS of MS through the state and I had to go through Vocational Rehab. It was a simple and easy process. The hard part about VR now is finding a doctor who doesn't have a waiting list of two years or more. Best of luck, Kitsy

That is the problem I am having right now. There are only two drs in Jackson that I could find - one is not accepting new patients for 6mths to a year. The other will accept Voc. Rehab only if I pay the remaining surgeon fee (drs agree to accept certain amount of payment from Voc. Rehab and that is all - but this one wanted me to pay whatever Voc. Rehab did not - in cash). If I could pay cash money for this surgery, I would not be using Voc. Rehab. Anyway the only other doctor that will take Voc. Rehab is Dr. Byars in Oxford and he has a two year waiting list (which I am on). Voc. Rehab can not do anything until I have my first inital visit with a Bariatric Surgeon. If I do not find one within 5 more months, VR will close my case and I will have to have it re-opened whenever I do get an initial dr visit. Thanks for responding! Marci
