Hey everybody! I hope yall are having a great day, its not so bad here, just ready to go home from work!! I get the results from my sleep study today...wish me luck! I guess what my question is , my surgery is about 2 months away (fingers crossed) and I was wondering if there are any vitamans or anything that I should be taking to help me with after surgery. I don't want my hair to fall out, but I know its a possiblilty, what can i do to help prevent that? thanks for any advice. crystal

I think what helped me most was about a month before surgery, I went on the the flour-no sugar diet. And then 4 days prior, I went on a liquid only diet so that they wouldn't have to clean me out. I dunno what vitamins or anything.... Smoochies Arlies

I would go ahead and start taking a really good multivitamin and go ahead and begin taking high potency biotin as well. I think everyone loses some hair but how bad yours comes out depends on how well you do getting the protein and vitamins in. My hair loss was very minimal but I was proactive in starting vitamins and biotin and getting the protein in. So I don't think it hurts to go ahead. Only me and my hair dresser knew my hair was falling out. Melissa

I forgot to mention this in my first post, but even though my hair has long stopped falling out I still take the biotin daily and my hair is growing back and I have all this new hair with a life of its own. But it is actually thicker now than it was before surgery. It is really very healthy. My hairdresser who has been doing my hair forever even says how much better shape it is in and how much thicker it is. So even though you may lose some hair for a short period of time, it may just grow back better than before so that is something to look forward to. Good luck and keep us posted on your surgery date Melissa

Hey Crystal, hope you did well on the sleep test !! Let us know what turns out on that okay? As for your questions about things you should be taking now to help you out later.... I'd have to say start protein, maybe a shake day, to build up the albumin storage in your body. It needs protein to heal quickly and every extra protein you get can only be good for you. Are you having open or laparoscopic surgery? It's really important if it's open, to get that incision healed up quickly, either way, it can only be of advantage to have your protein storage built up pre-op. Vitamins, sure, I used to take them pre op and now I take two a day, post op. I'm feelin' very healthy and very fit, and the B12 helps pre-op as well to gain energy. Basically, try to eat healthy, if you drink sugary drinks, switch to artificially sweetened, if you're hooked on caffeine, cut back on it. Caffeine withdrawal headaches are the pits! Hair falling out? Again, try to push protein, but do not be surprised if you lose hair by the handful, it happens to most of us, even if we get ALL the protein and everything we're supposed to be taking~~ as Melissa said. "it'll grow back" - mine's come back wavy LOL Take care and good luck on the test results! ~Andie~
