Talk to me about Lactose Intolerance
At the support meeting Monday, I mentioned that I have dumping particularly severe when I drink milk. I believed that it was caused by the liquid form moving through the pouch so quickly and the speed at which the sugar in the milk dumped into my intestines.
Dr Carson identified it as lactose intolerance instead of dumping. I still have not wrapped my mind around that. Doesn't lactose= sugar in milk? Bacteria was mentioned as a culprit but I missed part of the explanation. Did anyone who was there catch that part?
Can anyone help me grasp the difference. Why is lactose (milk sugar) different from regular sugar in how it effects our digestive systems. What is the difference between dumping and lactose intolerance, other than lactose intolerance only happens with milk products?

I did catch that and I dont know if I believe it is lactose intolerance. I dump on milk if I get more than 4 ounces. Its the dumping feeling. I have never been lactose intolerant. I guess it could be but there are sugars in milk. Natural or not.. I believe it is dumping -- or if it is lactose intolerance it sure feels like dumping.
I was surprised by his response to that. When I had that cereal that time with the milk... it was the worst feeling I have ever felt. THE WORST. The cereal wasnt high in sugar --I think it was like 3 or 4 grams and then the milk--- I dumped severely. Maybe that explains why I cant handle some SF ice creams. Maybe its not the sugar alcohols--maybe its the milk in the ice cream. Dont know... Something to think about. But, I wont be trying cereal anytime soon. I dont EVER want to feel that again.
