Hi my name is Robin. I live in Mobile, AL. As you know I'm very close to Mississippi. I was wondering if anyone knew if Medicaid of AL is accepted in MS? If so who takes Medicaid for bariatric surgery? Thank you, Robin

I don't know about Medicaid of AL, but i do know that umc in jackson takes medicaid....hope that helps..... Smoochies Arlies

Medicaid is a state program (Medicare is federal). With our experience, Medicaid generally will only pay for services in the state in which it is provided. We have had a couple of patients with AL Medicaid contact our clinic. Medicaid would not pay for Bariatric services out of state. This may have changed, so I would suggest calling the Medicaid office and verifying with them. Adam Dungey, RN 877 544-4898

Hi Robin, If you are getting Medicade you should be eligible for Vocational Rehab. They are supposed to try to get people back on the job, by offering medical, training or whatever needed to either keep a person working or get someone back to work. It seems like a lot of people on this board have been successful with Voc Rehab so you might give it a try!!! Best of luck!!!! Cheryl
