Cost of surgery for me...

Hello everyone- I thought that this may help some ppl. I have BCBS of Michigan PPO. My doctor is Dr. King Oxford, MS! Highly recommend him!! Amount billed / Amount reimbursed / Out of pocket Surgeon Fees (including consult) $13210.00 / $11997.96 / $2412.04 Anesthesiologist Fees $1872.00 / $1788.80 / $83.20 Total Hospital Charges for Surgery $30000.00 / $30000.00 / $0.00 TOTAL $45082.00 / $43786.76 / $2495.24 Thank God I didn't end up paying for the hospital! I also thank him for everything bc I know I had the surgery bc of him! Me and Hubby are pleased w/the amount to pay. Holy Cow your surgeons fee was high. Does that include all of your followup appointments as well? My surgeons fee was only $5500.00. But that doesnt include all the followups. This was just for the actual surgery day. My insurance still gets billed for those when I go.

Lol I have no clue! Thats just what it said on my info the insurance sent me. But it had multiple things on it, I just added them all together. The surgery itself was $6000.00 I also had hernia repair, and lab results.

Wow... No wonder they say this surgery is only for the rich. Can you imagine if you had to pay that out of pocket. I dont think many insurances will continue to cover this surgery. Its getting too much publicity and many more people are doing it. Costing them lots and lots of money. I think we all got in just in the knick of time. I heard that Oprah had this surgery. Anyone else hear this? I thought she was very anti WLS...

I got lucky my hubby has a good insurance. But now I know why Tn won't cover it! LOL! Thank God we have michigan insurance! If I had to pay it outta pocket I'd be killed by my hubby lol! Thank God tho insurance covered alot! I heard rumors about it but nothing more, but it makes you think!

i dont know about Oprah or not but i dont think so but i guess its possible.i definately think Star Jones had it. i dont care what she says....she never actually denied it though she just said that her drs got together and worked out something customized for her.i think she has wls that or she is anorexic. crystal rny 10/14/2004 229/153/125
