Hi, Some of you may remember me. I was prepared to have my surgery at Keesler in Sept, but the hurricane hit, and I also had to go home and take care of my terminally ill father. Now that I am beck, I got a referral for a doc in Alabama. His name is Gregory McGee, but on my referral sheet he is listed as a Cardio thoracix and vascular surgeon. Has anyone used or heard of him? I am very nervous, even more so than I was back in August when I was rpeparing to go through with this. I know I need to do this, but I just want to be able to do it myself. I really don't think that is possible. I have done so much. The risks terrify me... but so does not having anything done. I am going to be 31 in spet, and I an encroaching very close to 300 pounds. I have a very supportive husband. My mom had the surgery done in November of 2004, and she is doing great... Anyhow, looking forward to hearing from anyone! Connie

Hi connie, I had my RNY in April, I had the same worries that you do and I May have chickened out if I hadn't developed diabetes, sleep apnea and high bp. I did not want to have to deal with sugar problems and sleeping with that freaking mask for the rest of my life, I just couldn't see that happening. Since having it, I don't have to take bp meds, sugar, and I don't use the mask. I have only lost 35 lbs, but it has made a world of difference in how I feel. So if you have some of these comorbidites, you can count on them getting worse. The risk are high, but for me the chance of stroking out, or heart attack was much higher. I don't encourage or discourage anyone to do this, that is something that you have to do, I am just saying, I am glad I did it. Be sure to check out any Dr. You might want to use. Look on your alabama web site, you really need to know these things. Best wishes to you. I WILL KEEP YOU IN MY PRAYERS

I had my surgery done in Mobile, and I love my surgeon. His name is Dr. Joseph Galloway. He does the surgery at Providence Hospital, Mobile Infirmary, and Springhill Memorial. Providence was the best care I have ever received in a hospital. They were really good there. I know of several surgeons in the Mobile area that do the RNY, but I have never heard of the one you mentioned. Sorry. Good luck and glad to have you back. Melissa

Connie, I also had my surgery in Mobile due to Katrina. My doctor was Dr. Jeffrey Hannon at Mobil Infirmary. He's excellent and I got wonderful care at Mobile Inf. Glad to hear your Mom is doing so well. Don't have your surgery until you are sure you are ready. Tomanip
