WLS at Keesler a few questions
I have my first appt at Keesler with my PCM on the 22nd of June to get a referral for gastric bypass. For the people who have had surgery there I have a few questions... What are the steps after you get your referral do you have to have a psyc eval? Does General surgery call you to make an appt. Any info you all could share would be great. It is nice when you know what to expect. Thank you.
I had my surgery on the 8th of Feb at Keesler. I think I may be diffrent though cause my process went very quick. the first week of Jan I had an appt with my PCM and within 2 wekks after that I had an appt with gen surg. I went to a support meeting on the 25th of Jan and then alittle less than a week later Lisa called me and asked if I wanted to have my surgery on the 8th of Feb (less than one week after the call) I said sure and that was how mine went. Hi, I had my surgery at Keesler on March 1, 2005. I am down 65 pounds so far. Feeling great.
As far as pre-op steps. First you get your referral from your PCM, then you meet with one of the surgeons. You will have a pack of paperwork to fill out and at that time the doctor will determine what type of appt's you need to have. You will meet with the nutritionist and she will go over the diet for after the surgery, and you will have to attend a information seminar. Some have to go through psyc evals and some don't. You will have to have an X-ray done and some bloodwork on the day of your pre-op appt which will be a day or a few days before your surgery.
