HAS OR IS ANYONE GOING TO HAVE LAP BAND AT KEESLER AFB

TODAY MY DR PUT IN FOR A CONSOLATION FOR ME TO GET THE LAP BAND . HAS ANYONE HERE HAD THIS DONE AT KEESLER AND IF SO HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FROM THE TIME YOU HAVE THE CONSOLATION TO THE TIME YOU GET THE DATE TO HAVE THE LAP BAND ?

I had a RNY at Keesler in January and at that time Tricare did not allow lap bands. Dr. Jenkins and staff were looking into it, so I am thinking you won't find anyone who's had one here.....I don't know anyone on the MS board that has, but there is a lap banders board that may have more info for you. HEY SARA, I'm going for A RNY -lap tuesday at keesler. But I was told by the surgeons that they don't do the lap band at keesler , but maybe in the future. I wanted a lap band as well and my pcm told me that they did do them there, but he was miss informed. It was very quick for me as for some others, that have had the RNY at keesler. I went in probably two weeks ago and discussed WLS with them, and went to the inform meeting and support group meeting last week. It's happening so fast my head is spinning!!!They say that waitting on the appt date to get in to surgery clinic is the longest part, i was already being seen for something else in the surg clinic so i just asked and they are great i didn't even have a refferal from my pcm and they didn't make me get one!! Let us know how it goes i'm courious, they'll probably start the lap band the day after i have my RNY , my luck! I'm very comfortable with my dicision to go a head and do the RNY! Sara, you may want to call tricare's hotline. I don't know if they pay for lapbanding. At the time I got surgery a year ago, Lapband wasn't an option.Back then, Tricare Prime only paid for RNY and only open, shortly after that, they started approving laparoscopic RNY... worth a shot trying to call them for info. IF they okay it, they can give you names of surgeons in the area who do it. You may need to go out to New Orleans , Baton Rouge or Mobile, I don't think there are any in our area. Good Luck! ~Andie~

Sara, I have not had any surgery yet, but thought that I did want the lap band, however after doing quite a long bit of research about the overall success rate of lap bands, the need for revisions in the future and some of the problems of patients including only half of total excess weight loss, because this is a relatively new procedure without a long track record, I decided that I would op for a gastric by pass instead....... Not trying to persuade you but check it out..... Cheryl

cheryl, i have been doing something and i do think that i will talk to the dr about gastric by pass . it is really alot to think about my mind keeps say yes then no lol i am a big baby and scared .
