Sleep Apnea
UGH - I tested positive. Now they want me to come back and sleep with a machine! ( - now if that ain't funny) I've heard horrible things about getting used to these monsters on your face. Oh well - it's for the greater good right?
Any post-ops out there who've been able to come off of a c-pap after losing some weight?

Hey kimberly, Idon't have the awnser to your question, I just wanted to tell you to hang in there! And i would think that after losing some weight you wouldn't have to use it long, So many wonderful things happen to you when your a little less fluffy!! I hate you want be able to make it sunday i wish I could say that i was as diecated to my church. And since your gonna be at church sunday what do think my chances are of getting on that prayer list?? I'll take all the prayers i can get! Hugs back at ya, DAWN
LOL Dawn - well, before you give me too much credit.... If I wasn't paid to be there, I know my lazy butt wouldn't be there every single Sunday. LOL But, I do love my job - and consider myself lucky to have the kind of schedule I have. I'm also lucky because my preacher had this surgery in December - she reccomended my surgeon. Lot's of support there!
You are being prayed for!

Kim, I came off on my on. I know I shouldn't have self diagnosed, but as with my blood pressure, my sleep apnea symptons have gone away also. I sleep through the night now, don't get tired during the day and don't snore near as much. If you can sleep on your back ok, it will be alot easier getting used to the mask. It stays on better and fits better if you sleep on your back. That was my problem, I had never slept on my back and never really got fully comfortable sleeping with it on my back. I would sometimes sleep on my side, but would wake up with it wrapped halfway around my head, so it was kinda defeating the purpose.
OH gosh - that doesn't sound fun. I am not really a back sleeper either. Hmmmmm
We'll see where this goes. Should be fun. NOT!
Hopefully it won't be long before I can come off of it, but on the other hand, I've snored since I was young child and wonder if this is not a problem I've had all of my life - regardless of weight.
And when I say snore - I mean bring the walls down snore! I can remember one day in 7th grade I fell asleep on the couch and woke myself up snoring. I asked my mom if it was thundering outside!
Thanks for the response!

Kimberly, I have a cousin and a close friend who both are on the c-pap machine. They say that after about a week of adjustment they were much, much better and felt great, better than in years! So, maybe you can cope with it until you have lost some weight. Both of my friends swear by the machine and say that they cannot live without it!
Hang in there !!!!!

Good Morning Kimberly, I have been on my c-pap since 1996 and can't sleep a night without it. I have two things to advise you on, 1. put it on the first night and DO NOT take it off. You may not sleep much but just breath slowly and deeply about 3 times, then relax. I was given this advise and it worked for me. I haven't missed a night! 2. When you get the machine, ask for a long hose. Next, then when you go to bed drape it over the head of you bed. This feeds it too your face and the swivel allows it to turn with your body. I hope this helps. This is more serious than most people realize. It damaged my heart and I feel asleep sitting in a chair in my classroom while grading papers. A child was standing beside me and caught me.
But, I too am looking forward to having my surgery and coming OFF mine someday. Just try to think about your heart. Smiles, Jan
