This is my third day on sugar free clear liquids. I was to have started protein shakes three times a day Monday, but didn't find out until that afternoon. When I pick up some from Walmart that the Nutritionist recommended, that basically made me gag!. Needless to say, my first real shake was last night after I sought help from a local pharmacist who also deals with natural meds and concocted a whey protein shake I can handle. He ordered a ready-made chocolate version of it which will be in Friday. Also, I ordered some samples from Unjury Monday night. I am so weak!! I am getting the liquids in, but I still my energy level is null. I just this doesn't affect my surgery date!!! Rebecca

It's not easy, but it is worth it!! You will like the Unjury. Are you able to have broth with what you are doing? That gives you a little more variety. I used to open a can of chicken noodle soup and strain the juice out of it and drink it. You can have sugar free jello. What was the brand of stuff from Walmart? I can not do the whey ones, to me they are too thick, like yogurt and I don't like yogurt. The unjury usually only takes a few days, maybe it will be there soon. Hang in there, it is for a good cause, your health!! Will you be at the picnic on Sunday? Rhonda

Hi Rhonda: The brand at Walmart was EAS. Thanks for your hints. Do you know if the broth from egg drop soup would be okay? I won't make it to the picnic Sunday - although I really want to - because I'm very involved at church and really can't miss. Sorry. And, yes, I will hang in there - not to worry!!! Thanks again! If you arent sure if its worth it... you may want to rethink it. This is not only preop but for several weeks post op.

You are going to be on these shakes for a while post op. The best thing to do is to order several samples until you find one you can do. I did not like just chocolate or just vanilla. But a friend of mine who had surgery before me told me to buy the carb solutions powder in chocolate and vanilla and do one scoop chocolate and one scoop vanilla to make a shake. I found that I could tolerate that and it tasted pretty good. The vanilla helped make the chocolate less strong. It made more of a creamy shake. Bariatric eating sells the shakes in sample size which is great so you are not stuck with a big can of something you can't use. Good luck and try to keep your strength up because you will need it to recover from your surgery. Good luck and keep us posted, Melissa Taylor 277/136 -141 pounds

Thanks, Melissa! I will definitely keep the carb solutions in mind if I don't like the Unjury. Rebecca

Rebecca, go to www vitalady.com or www bariatriceating.com I have ordered several samples and found what I like. Watch out for carb content in them. I found Isopure Chock, Van or strawberry are good and also get some Davinci sugar free syrup and throw a few drops in it makes them even better. THey have zero carbs. And remember now your stomach is still large so liquids will be tougher on your now, you will still be hungry alot. But when your stomach is smaller and that is all it will take you will be able to tolerate it better. Sue 261/?/140

Rebecca, YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will be worth it and I know you're really unhappy right now with this liquid diet, just hang in there, you'll agree in a few months that it was worth it. The protein shakes before surgery really help you build up the protein stored in your body to help your body heal. I know it helped me , I had popped staples the day I got out of the hospital and the gap closed by itself over nite, due to my protein stored, it helped me heal quickly. Can you take vitamins? B12 sublinguals are GREAT to help get your energy back. You will like unjury, I love it and still order it off and on. When I have one of those days when I forget to eat because I'm too busy and running out of the house without packing a lunch, I have the small single packs at work and just run to the convenience store on my lunch for a fat free milk to mix it with. We're here for you, we're all thinking of you and praying for your next two weeks to be over with quickly. Its hard but it is SO rewarding!! We'll give you about 6 months, and you will definitely agree with us all, the short and uncomfortable time you gotta deal with all this, you would do it again and again to get where you will be in a year. ~Andie , aka 11 months out and 133 lbs lighter~

Hey Rebecca, Girl you need to really try to get "use" to that protein taste. Some people are still on them at 6-8 months out. I know that it will be a very hard thing to do, but try to work on it. And I have to say that I agree with what Christine said. I think that you really need to step back & take a very long hard look at what your going to be doing to yourself. Your life will never be the same again after surgery. I'm not jumping on you, But anytime someone questions "if it is worth it", throws up major red flags with me. That type question should have already of been answered way before anyone even thinks about getting a surgery date. Anyways, I hope that you will sit down & re-think your choices that you have made. Make sure this is what YOU want to do. And that YOU are doing it for the right reasons. I know some people personally who thought life was just going to be perfect & peachy keen afterwards. Boy were they wrong !!! All of the problems they had before WLS, were still there afterwards. Some of them were even worse. Like their marriage.... once that old green eyed jealousy monster came out, the marriage went to hell in a hand basket. All I'm saying is PLEASE think about what your doing. Assume that for the rest of your life you will be stuck drinking those protein shakes. Then if & when you are able to move up to the next level, you will be happy. And if your not able to do so, your heart won't be too broken. Tammy
