Choices are too many!!
Hello Everyone,
I am scheduled to have a RNY on June 8,2005. I am excited and terrified. My doctor is David Jenkins from Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi. I have researched this surgery and I know that it going to be the best help for me. My family tries to be supported, but they are so afraid that something bad may happen because of the surgery. I know they are just worried, I have explained that if I don't do this for myself I won't be around ten years from now. I currently have diabetes and high blood pressure. My joints ache and I have been miserable for years now. And I know that most of ya'll out there can relate!!
I have enjoyed reading your profiles and I can tell each of you that the information I have received from this site and other sites have been very helpful in my outlook and feelings towards my upcoming surgery.
I have too many choices for a tatesless protein that can be mixed with any liquid or food. If I could get the names of the two best tasting ones it would be very helpful. I do remember that my tastes can be different from someone eles and also that my taste can change.
I want this post to be the first of many. Please say prayers for me on June 8 and I will update everyone as I can. Thank You All, Sharon
Hopefully you'll say goodbye to the high bp very soon. I had hbp, controlled by medication, and when the doctor visited after my surgery he said not to take any more medication. I used to have headaches all the time, I took tylenol like candy. I had my surgery April 13 and to this day have not had one headache and everytime I check my bp it is normal. Not one bp pill since surgery. It's simply amazing.
Sharon,
congrats on your decision and a good surgeon to boot, you'll be fine. To answer your protein question, I found unjury the best unflavored. (unjury.com).
Take care, and by the way, I've had diabetes and high BP as well, no medication after surgery and never again since... how awesome is that?

Congratulations Sharon... Your surgery is right around the corner.
My family and friends were worried too-as was I.... It is a very dangerous surgery but I have heard nothing but good things about those doctors at Keesler.
I cant help you much on the tasteless proteins cause I have never tried them. My 2 favorite shakes are EAS Advantage Coffee House Shakes and the Designer Whey protein shakes. Both of them I find at Walmart. The coffee shakes come in Mocha Latte, Cafe Caramel, and Cappucino. Its not thick and chalky like the slim fasts. Plus, I got real tired of the choc, vanilla and strawberry flavors.
I have found that the more protein you get the less you want to eat. Always eat your protein first and try to stay away from the carbs. Carbs will make you more hungry.
I did not have any comorbities before surgery but I was headed that direction. I know lots of folks on this site whose comorbites were cleared up in the first month or so.. some before they even left hospital.
Our bash is on the 5th of June. I do hope you can come and visit with us. Lots of post ops will be there.

Hi Sharon, I had my surgery at Keesler Medical center on March 1. My doc was Dr. Mann, he is wonderful. I am sure that you will end up seeing most every bariatric doctor on staff when you are in the hospital, but fell assured, they are all great! I was one of the problem patients as I had some complications but luckily nothing major. I have fully recovered and am doing better than I have in years. I am 12 weeks out and have lost 60 pounds. My blood pressure is normal, my heart rate is normal and I have more energy than I have had in years! Tuesday night the 31st of May is the support group meeting at Keesler, you should really try to attend, you will meet a lot of people that are going through or have already went through what you are going through right now. It may be good to bring some of your family so that they can see how things are also. It sure did make my husband open his eyes and see that maybe this was the best thing for me. Now he is much more supportive and is very happy with my weight loss and the way I look and feel.
As far as the protein stuff, I feel that unjury is the best tasting. But trust me everything tastes different after you have the surgery, I was totally surprised at how my taste buds changed. I mostly get my protein in through food, I do not care much for any of the protein drinks, but if I have to do one, I just add a scoop of unjury to whatever I want to. The vanilla is good to add to milk or pudding.
I wish you the best of luck and look forward to meeting you at a future support group meeting at Keesler. My picture is on my profile so if you show up at the meeting come and introduce yourself so that I know who you are.
