Hi all Someone asked earlier if I'd share the questions I intend on asking at my pre op appt. Well, hereeeeeeeeee they are! I'll include more as I think of them. Hugz, Kimberly 1.) Do you use a Greenfield filter to prevent bloodclots? If not, why? 2.) What should I do one week prior to surgery that will enable faster healing? 3.) Do you require a bowel cleansing? 4.) How much of my intestines will be by-passed? Is this promximal or distal? What makes you determine how much of my intestines will be by-passed? 5.) I suffered a car accident years ago and am disabled now due to that accident. Exercise is difficult for me now. What do you recommend for your more immobile patients to guarantee the most success? 6.) Do you cut the acid preventing nerve to prevent ulcers? Will you prescribe an anacid after surgery and if so how long will I have to take it? 7.) What about my Gall bladder? Is this ever removed during surgery? If so, how do you determine that? 8.) Do you do a liver biopsy? 9.) How long will I be in recovery? 10.) What kind of pain meds will I be given after surgery? And, will I have a pump? 11.) Will I have a nasal or intubation tube? If so, for how long? 12.) How long will I be catheterized? 13.) Will I have a drainage tube? When will it come out? And, where will it be? 14.) Can I have family stay with me in the hospital? 15.) How soon after surgery will I be walking? 16.)Will I have respitory therapy? 17.) I have heard of some surgeries being cancelled due to H.Pylori being present in the stomach. Is there anything I can do to prevent that? 18.) Will I have staples with RNY Lap? If so, how long will they stay in? 19.) What will be my absorbtion rate after surgery? 20.) What vitamins and or supplements will I need to take? 21.) How much water should I take in daily? And, how long should it take me to get in that much? 22.) Should I get a medic alert bracelet? I hear the stomach cab be puntured with a tube if paramedics aren't alerted that I've had gastric by-pass surgery? 23.) How many surgeries have you preformed, Dr. Cummins? 24.) What is your mortality rate? If you've had them ... were there extinuating cir****tances? 25.) I understand I won't be able to ingest Aspirin based products after surgery. I have arthritis from time to time ... what do you suggest I use? 26.) What about a stomach binder? Do you use these or think they are necessary? 27.) What do consider a successful GB patient? How do you determine the clinic goal for each patient?

I have a couple others that I want to ask. 1. Will you be suturing the messentery window that was created instead of stapling it? (Prime spot for hernia and sutures are best per my vast research) 2. Will you be using Fibrin Glue on the staple line to help with adhesion and leak prevention. 3. Do you do a leak test submerging the anastomosis under water and blowing air through an endoscope and checking for bubbles before final close up in surgery. Sue ( I have been doing alot of research and these things have been mentioned on NUMEROUS websites as problem prevention techniques)
