I went in to a meeting with both principals. I had put in my request for sick leave but was a bit worried that it would be approved. Dr. Avara asked that I be off for 10 weeks to heal and my summer is not long enough. I was prepared to quit if they did not approve, but to my surprise they were both as nice as pie about the whole thing! I was so happy not to go thru that hassle. The male principal said, your not going to have your stomach stapled are you? I just said oh no not that! LOL!!!

Hi Cheryl, It is so good to hear things are going well for you. When do you plan to fly home? Do you have family here in B'haven? I am really looking forward to getting to know you. Keep up the positive thinking and planning. Smiles, Jan

I will be flying into New Orleans on the 24th, have an appointment with the surgeons office in Ocean Springs on the 27th. I live in Brookhaven, have a house there, but have been overseas for the past 8 years. You may have seen the kids a few years ago, I used to bring my class from Hong Kong for English immersion in the Brookhaven community. I am teaching Art now. Would love to visit with you, will email you with a telephone number as soon as I get service restored at the house. This surgery is a big undertaking, but have made appointments with my PCP for tests and it is rolling! See U Soon! Cheryl

Great news Cheryl, yea all I told my boss was that I was having surgery. With all the Privacy Act stuff going on now, I have been told by several people here on the board that I don't have to tell them what kind of surgery and I really prefer not to. I work with a bunch of jocks and don't want to have to listen to all their BS about it. Keep us updated. Sue 270/?/140

Well here in Hong Kong, it isnt quite as good, but since the surgery is not common, I figured that they would not guess, but I was only asking for a small bit of time off. The 10 weeks thing is because the surgeon was afraid that I might have something happen while flying back because it is about 22 hours in the air altogather. He is just being cautious! I did have the sick leave so I hoped that they would be nice about it. The male principal is a royal donkey, but the female principal is very good. As I expected it was the donkey who made the comment, but he is leaving at the end of this year, thank goodness!!!!!

I had my surgery done open on April 1 and went back to teaching on May 19. Why are they telling you that you need 10 weeks? My principal was very understanding of my having surgery until he found out what it was for and then he gave me the AX!!! Oh well, I didn't want to be there anyway!! LOL Kitsy

Cheryl, Wonderful! I'm happy you didn't have to quit your job. Don't you just loveeeeeeeeeeeee the questions that fly outta people's mouths when you mention surgery??? LOL ... I had someone ask me recently the same thing... I just answered, "Noooo, I'm having a lobotomy. Don't you think I need one"? LOLOLOL ... You should've seen their expression! PRICELESS!! LOL ...
