Recipe
I dont have hers but after I finished hers off I found one on the internet. I changed it up a bit and it was really good. Here it is the way I made it.
3 oz. diced bacon (approximately 4 slices)
1 medium diced onion
1/4 lb. diced new potatoes
4 cups heavy cream
2 1/2 cups chopped clams, fresh or frozen
1/3 cup flour
1/2 cup half & half
3 oz. butter
2 oz. clam concentrate or clam base
1 1/4 cups clam juice or nectar
1 pinch chopped fresh garlic, black pepper, cayenne pepper to taste
1/4 teaspoon dill
1/2 teaspoon thyme
2 bay leaves
Cook bacon until transparent.
Add butter, onions, and all the seasoning except dill.
Coo****il tender.
Add flour and cook for another 3 - 4 minutes over low heat.
Add all dairy products, clam nectar and base.
Heat just under boiling point.
Steam potatoes and cool.
Add chopped clams and potatoes.
Bring to a boil slowly and cook for 2 - 3 minutes.
Add dill.
I hope you like it. I love clam chowder and I think I might just have to make some more. I also like potato soup but I cannot make it right. My dad is the only one who can make it the way I like it. I had no problem with the cream or the half and half.
I did fine with it. It was about my 6th or 7th day. I was not very obediant following surgery though. I got super sick of liquids quickly. The broth to me wasnt any worse than those shakes. It was the same consistency. The day before I had eaten some runny grits and had also tried some potatoes. So.. in my opinion you can try it-If you cant handle it - freeze it and try it again in a few weeks. Some people get sent home on soft foods already and dont have to do the liquid diet. Check with your doctor though cause I dont want to get you in any trouble.
Also know that I wasnt one of the ones who didnt want food--I wanted food as soon as I woke up after surgery. I watched the food channel 3 days post op. I fight head hunger daily and have from the beginning. I am a food addict.
I hope you do get an approval. I truly am praying for you. I know how desperate things can get.
It will work out.
