We recently had a meeting on the 19th. It was a cozy little gathering at one of our members house (thanks again Kim1). It was fun and informative and I know I really had a good time. I think everyone else did as well.
I hope that we can encourage more people to participate in the group. I would like to especially encourage those members that are post ops to participate in the meetings and online postings. Even though it seems trivial, you just don't realize how much it helps to talk to people who have been through this experience just like you and to share stories, compare experiences and exchange "tricks of the trade" if you will with other members. I know I lose grip a little on my obedience now that I am over a year post op. ("Hi my name is Dave, I'm a crunchiecarbaholic") All together now ("Hi Dave") ok I am not a crunchiecarbaholic but I do dabble. Using this as an example of the statement above, I feel that when I am doing this, I am alone in doing it and in some strange circle of self sabotage I guess I continue to do it. But... when I attended the meeting last weak I talked another member, I won't name any names, that does it as well. Strangely enough, it made me feel better about it and even more strangely I have been able to in this week get a grip on it. Not a super firm grip mind you but a grip. My point being "IT HELPS!!!" So if there is some little something that you think that you need help with. Please open up. Please chat in the group, come to the meetings. You won't be disappointed we Promise.
You also will not beleive how good it feels to help someone who is just about to embark on this life changing journey. They need help with insurance, guidance in dealing with doctors and talking to insurance reps, suggestions on what steps they should take and when they should take them, and much much more. I know that you don't think that you are an expert on any one part of this process. I can tell you though, I bet that each end every one of us are well versed on at least one particular area in this long process. I can also tell you from the people that I have talked to, someone out there needs help with that very issue. So try your best to participate in some way. If nothing more than sticking your head into the group from time to time. You may see that one question that you can give the answer to. or you may get a few questions answered, you never know.
I am also going to start a weekly chat on the group to get everyone more acquainted and talking more. I will send a follow up e-mail to get that under way.
We are always looking for new members so feel free to pass this message on to pre and post op patients alike.
Let's get this group moving and shaking again!!!

Hey Dave in Clinton!
I'm up here in Oxford at right at 21 months Post-Op
And at Goal for just over the last 3 and a half months.
Down from 385 lbs to 182 lbs.
Most of my support meetings in Oxford
Are people from Tupelo, Bama, and Tennessee.
Would love to hook up with more Mississippi folks.
I do hang out, or drop by this board often,
So keep putting out the word.
This "Virtual" Support Group,
Has been a godsend for me.
Best Wishes-
Dx
