THE ONLY PSYCH EXAM SHE HAD WAS QUESTIONS BY A PSYCHIATRIST SHE KNEW NO QUESTIONS LIKE 544 REMEMBER IT JUST MAKES ME MAD I'VE BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH TO GET THIS FAR AND SOMEONE CAN WALK INTO THIS AND GET IT DONE WITH NO PROBLEM, I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR MORE THAN A YEAR. WHAT'S THE FUNNY THING WHEN I DISCUSSED WITH HER ABOUT A TUBE POSSIBLY IN THE STOMACH FOR 2 WEEKS AND THE DRINKING OF THE FLUID SHE DIDN'T KNOW ANY OF THIS I ASKED HER YOU DID NO RESEARCH GOT ON NO INTERNET TALK TO OTHERS. I do know it is easier for some than it is for others. I did not have to have any pre-op testing. No psych, no nothing. The only test my doctor required was an EGD because I had had so many other previous surgeries. I also know some doctors prepare better than some. When I had my first surgery in 1991, I was told to go home and do the T-factor diet. No other instructions were given. He just sort of dropped me off. This time, however, I had full instructions after I left the hospital. Continue to work hard at it. Your hard work will pay off.

Hey Lisa.. I only had the psyc eval, nutrition eval, and an EKG... I didnt have to have alot of the stuff others do. I guess all doctors are different and some insurances require more stuff than others. I didnt go home with any tubes. Everything was removed before we left the hospital. I have talked to some people who say their docs had them on soft food before they left and they never did the liquid diet. Who is her doctor and who is yours?

Lisa, Different surgeons feel comfortable with different tests. I had the Psych eval and understood why only about 6 months into the process how truly emotionally taxing this surgery can be, if any problems exist pre-surgery they should be addresses before WLS. I had tons of bloodwork, including the Arterial Blood Gas (painful)and full lung function testing. I had laproscopic RNY. No sleep tests, no feeding tubes, just full liquids for a while after surgery. Your surgeon is just being prepared for the worst. Any questions he/she has in an area, must be checked out prior to surgery. We expect that of them and would blame them if something didn't go well because of it. I have seen people go into this surgery lightly and have it be a huge mistake for them. Had they been more prepared by a lengthy referral process, they may have made better decisions. All the "hard work" that we put into preparing for this surgery only prepares us for the hard work of living with this surgery. The more prepared you are before, gives you a greater rate of success after surgery. Others aren't better off because they didn't have to jump through hoops, just more likely to be unprepared for the changes that are to come and at higher risk to achieve less than expected results long-term. Make no mistake, the work has just begun. Hang in there, Elesha 3 yrs post-op and counting LapRNY 2/26/02 288/165
