Good Morning Guys, Well I guess like the rest of us "pre-ops" out there, every morning we wake up thinking about the surgery and questions pop into our mind. I am just in the "waiting on insurance approval" stage so I haven't even met my doctor or anything yet. Going to my first seminar next week. I am using Dr. King in Oxford and I understand that as a routine procedure he always inserts an Intra Vena Cava Filter in to hopefully prevent blood clots from traveling to places they shouldn't go. Has anyone else had this done? In my infinite research on the net, it says that when one is inserted, they can actually encourage deep vein thrombosis moreso than normal. Sue

Hi Sue. My best friend used Dr. King and she had to have one. I used Dr. Byars and did not. She did fine. What day is the meeting next week? I may like to go with you if it is on a day that I can. I have never been to one of their seminars but would enjoy it. Kitsy

Kit-C, I called them and the support group is tonite from 7-8:30. The informational seminar is next Thursday the 14th from 6-7:30. They told me since I am pre op, that I should first go to the informational seminar. You probably aren't interested in that, but you are more than welcome to go, and after I go to that, I will definitely be going to their support groups so we can go together. Sue

Hey Sue, I too used Dr King. But I choose not to have the filter. Alot of that depends on your age and chances of blood clots. My main reason was I want to have another baby and would have to have it removed then. Dr King was fine with it though. Good luck with everything. If I can answer any questions please let me know. Be prepared though Dr King advances your diet alot slower then some of the others. Good Luck Becky

I hear the filters are a good thing. I didn\'t have one, but was sent home with 10 days worth of blood thinner shots. Don\'t be skairt! It only hurts about 3 days! Smooch ARlies
