vocational rehab question
Michelle... I do not know a whole lot about vocational rehab. I will tell you what little I do know.
My insurance paid for my surgery but I used Voc Rehab to pay my $1000.00 deductible and the remainder of my hospital fees.
I am in Forrest County and went to the Voc Rehab office and talked to a case manager. Their main goal is to keep you in the work field. They want to know that if you have this surgery you will go back to work or continue to work if you are presently employed.. It was very simple. I was there for about 30 minutes and then he called me 2 days later to tell me my worksheet was ready. This worksheet was like a contract between him and I and the hospital. THey put the amounts they would pay to surgeon, hospital, aneste, etc... All I paid at the hospital was $250.00. I have never recieved a bill. Voc Rehab paid the rest.
Its definatly worth checking in to. The only doctors I know of though that will take Voc Rehab as their form of payment is Dr. Salameh in Jackson.
Let us know what you find out.
Michelle, I am like Christine and can tell you what I know. First you need to look up Ms Department of Rehabilitation services in your city and call and make an appt. to apply for services. They mainly ask questions first meeting to see if you qualify I guess. Then I had to bring the letter where my insurance company turned me down, which this is good it let's them know you tried other places. You sign papers to get your medical records be sent to them, afterwards a medical dr. of their's look at your history on file and will determine if you are qualified. If records get there fast you should get an answer fast. They should be able to tell you of some dr's. that have taken their payments in your area. Their are some in Oxfords, Vicksburg, Jackson and Memphis. I hope this helped a little.
Here are a few numbers I have:
1-800-711-4588
Or my case manager Kimberly Weathers- 601-582-4381 and ask her if you all have an office in Greenville and number if she has it.
The listing is at the front of your phone book under government listings. Each county has an office, or should. I know Oxford has a 2 year waiting list but hey that is something. Jackson may be quicker. UMC does take it. Hattiesburg does not.
It is slow because of all the paper work involved.

Jane surgery april 4th UMC
VR paid for my surgery. The only cost I had was for pre-op testing which came to $995.00. I made an appointment with a surgeon who took VR payment and then called the VR office in my county. I was told that I had to have a letter from my ins. company saying they would not cover the surgery. I also had to have a 6 month physician monitored diet. It was the easiest thing I ever did. The hardest part was the wait. I was approved in August of 2003 and had to wait until April 2004 for the surgery.
Best of luck to you. If you need any additional assistance, feel free to email me at [email protected]. I will be glad to help you.
