Getting a little anxious....
Hi everyone,
I can't believe that I have a date and that I am actually going to have the surgery I have been trying to have for over 3 years. I told someone today that my RNY will be exactly 3 years to the day after my double mastectomy for cancer. They thought I should ask for another date, but my cancer surgery was successful and I know this one will be too.
I am a bit anxious, not about the surgery, but afterwards. I have such a hard time drinking water...but I am getting better. I actually drank 2-20 oz bottles today.
I am also anxious about returning to work. I work in an office, and need to get back as soon as possible. Can anyone tell me what I can expect in this department?
Thanks for your support,
June
Hey June,
Well I'm still pre-op but my niece that had this surgery went back to work after a week. She works in an Nuclear Medicine office & does a lot of sitting, unless she has to take stuff to the hospitals.
But she had no problems with the going back to work part.
Getting a jump on your water in take is a great idea. Maye you will be use to drinking it all by surgery. If your like me, the only water you want is in tea, kool-aide, sodas, etc. Not plain water. Yuck !!!
I've got to get my butt in gear and really work on that one !!!

June,
I'm still pre-op, but was told that I would be out 2 weeks. I myself don't believe that. I think I can go back within a week if there are no complications. I may be fooling myself!
Of course I don't work everyday, and can sit at my job. I am a music director for a church, so really only HAVE to be at work on Sundays. The rest I can do from my bed.
But I've heard stories where people are back after a week, but be prepared to go home early. I've heard you can get really tired easily.
Wow on the 40oz of water - WTG!!
Build it up from there. Try some lemon and a splenda pack in it. YUM!

I can understand your anxiety!! My surgery is only 12 more days until my surgery! YIKES...
I was pleasantly surprised this weekend, I tried the crystal lite lemonade and the crystal lite iced tea, and it was REALLY GOOD!! I was expecting it to taste yucky and bland but it was actually really good. I could not tell that it was sugar free!! The tea tasted like the canned Nestea with lemon to me. And the lemonade tasted just like lemonade koolaid. I don't foresee having a problem with those. I found them in the walmart brand in the individual packets that is one serving at a time and much cheaper than the crystal lite brand. I also bought some sf koolaid but have not tried it yet.
Good Luck and keep up the good work, you will be there in no time.

June are you getting your surgery Lap or open? I wouldn't push moving around too soon even if it is Lap because it is internal and if open I know you won't be able to go back in a week very dangerous. I had my Gallbladder taken out lap and sometimes I felt like I could do whatever I wanted to do and right in the middle of doing it it felt like the air was let out of me. I felt very tired, run down, and achy inside. If you can, try to use this time as a extended vacation and get some rest from the rat race of life.
Take Care

Hi June
congrats on the surgery date. I too work in an office environment and honestly I could have went back after three weeks. I had open RNY and had a G -tube for 3 wks that really bugged me. Once that was out, I could have went back without a problem but they did offer me 6 weeks of short term disability so I went ahead and took advantage of it. I did have some issues though coming back to work, getting all my water and required food in, with little time I would have for breaks and lunch. If you have Lap RNY, you may be back in no time, make sure you talk to your doctor and Human Resource dept and see if they would possibly give you the LONGER time out but an option to return if the doctor sees you fit to go back.
Have a Great Day!
