My suggestion is not to buy alot of expensive stuff. I used SF Carnation Instant breakfast. Others have said the Designer protein drinks at Wal-Mart pharmacy at good. Try Carb Countdown FF dairy beverage and Orange Drink (for Vit. C) These are products I have used regularly . Try not to plan to drink all your protein. You will want the rountine part of eating foods to satisfy you. Add protein powder to oatmeal or cereal.

For my first week where all my protein will come from my drink, CIB will have all the protein I need?? Do I really need to mix it in water?? Thanks for the info! d--

You can mix the sf cib with fatfree milk. If you don't like it cold, try it hot like hot chocolate. It is pretty good that way. I am in the same situation as you, trying to prepare for my surgery in two weeks. I want to get all of the stuff ready for my return from the hospital. I have tried some of the walmart brand sf crystal lite, I tried the lemonade and the iced tea and both taste really good. Rhonda

I have been preparing myself as well. I bought the sf carnation instant breakfast, it comes in both chocolate and french vanilla at Walmart, in the pharmacy section. Also there is a protein drink called Advantage, it is made by Atkins, those don't taste to bad either. Both have 3g of Carbs. I have not bought any of the powder yet, so I need to check into that to mix with my foods. I have heard that mixing it with your soft foods like oatmean or yogurt helps alot. You can order different things at www.bariatriceating.com I hope this helps. Rhonda

Hey yall... I absolutly love the Designer Whey protein shakes from Wal-mart. There are 4 in a pack and its about $7.00. The are like smoothies. I prefer the peach and the strawberry banana. Another one of my favorties are the AES Coffee Shakes. They are good and not thick like the slim fasts and CIB. I cannot stand either one of those. Too Thick and chalky! Your gonna have to just find some that you like before you buy a bunch. I got really tired of choc, strawberry, and vanilla flavors. The Designer Wheys get away from that and are less calories than the slim fast. The coffee shakes are good and are 15g of protein and 110 calories. Good luck!

Hi Daphne I'm not too fond of the protein I get at GNC, loved it in the beginning, hated them after surgery. I'm usually getting unjury vanilla or unflavored (unjury.com) or matrix 5.0 chocolate or vanilla (do a search for it on the internet, I found a website that sells it cheaper, like 25-30.00 for a big bag that lasts me a month) I hate aftertastes and those two brands are the only ones I like. GNC has some sugar free ones, but the aftertaste is gross to me. Others don't find it has one. Trial and error applies of course. Take care ~~Andie~~

Whatever you do, don't buy the GNC unflavored soy protein! YUCK. I am trying the unjury unflavored and mixing it in Hills Bros. Carb Wise French Vanilla cappaccino. It is the only drink I have been able to stick with for more than about a day or two. Your tastes are going to change. I would suggest the CIB for a while. It is fairly good. You can always add a scoop of protein to it. Kitsy

I get most of mine from vitalady.com. It is a site specific to bariatric patients. I suggest you order the samples to see what you like. I'm afraid I hated all the fruity ones but found a vanilla that is really good to mix with SF flavored syrups. I also use the Carb Solutions from WalMart but use a hand blender to mix it with water and ice. Many people use the SF CIB but my surgeon told me not to use it. She said that it just doesn't "pack the punch" protein-wise as some others do. In the beginning when you are consuming such tiny volumes, you want as many grams of protein per sip as you can get. I followed her instructions and it worked for me. Elesha LapRNY 2/26/02 288/165
