It was a slow day and my eating was pretty awful! I munched way too much and on the wrong things. 7:00 Coffee/handful of Trail Mix 11:00 Tuna sandwich (tuna, eggs, mayo, pickles) on 2 slices wheat toast 12:30 Ugh...2 pretzel rods smeared with icing and sprinkles (nutritionally speaking not unforgivable but from a behavioral standpoint, a major downfall). 2:00 Multiple trials with making SF cookies (can't even count the nibbles) 5:00 Protein bar 7:30 1 SF Klondike bar (On the Way home from Wal-Mart, no less) MAJOR behavioral taboo of eating while doing something else. I didn't even enjoy it! 8:30 1 slice DiGiorno pizza 10:00 1 SF Klondike Bar Today was a disappointment in that I allowed old behaviors to re-emerge. I have to watch many old bxs but some that occurred today are scary. #1 Eating while doing something else, like driving. I have banned eating in the car because it is inevitably unsatisfying when it's over and purely a stress/habitual related pattern. #2 Buying foods that I know I have problems controlling myself (ie. SF ice creams) In my humble opinion, WLS is more about changing the behaviors that made me MO to begin with. This far post-op, it's not about restriction and malabsorption anymore. It is about how you learned to deal with your eating in the first year when your pounch was "all powerful" and the restriction/malabsorption effect was your life. I'm spouting my philosophy to give others insight into the maintenance phase on WLS and to remind myself that identifying the problems is a major tool in elimiating/managing them. I don't advocate beating yourself up about food choices like mine yesterday but I do advocate awareness of self-sabataging behaviors that sneak into the picture when the defenses are weak.
