Need HELP with Protein!!
You had your surgery exactly one year later than me. It is hard for me to believe it has already been one year. I remember those early days and trying to get that protein in. I drank alot of Lactaid (milk) in the beginning to try to get protein in because it counted as part of my liquids as well as nutrition. My tummy just couldn't get everything liquids and foods in a day's time. I put sugar free chocolate syryp in mine to give it some flavor. I had such a hard time because I would throw up when I tried to drink those thick protein shakes (yuck). I also ate refried beans with cheese melted on them. The beans and cheese both have protein. Anyway that got me by until I could tolerate my shakes better. Good luck and know things do get easier as you go along.

thnkas. i have tried skim milk, soy milk, and powdered milk. none of it agrees with my new tummy. i got nauseas(sp) with ALL of them. im trying to freeze some juice with the powder in it now and see if that helps any. im not sure if i can have the refried beans but i will call the dr and ask. i just need to get my proteins somehow and the shakes are a no go. ive tried adkins, boost , slimfast- they all make me gag!. thanks for the info and i will check into those beans! lol. thanks
I couldn't tolerate regular milk or soy milk, but I could do the lactaid. It being lactose free, I guess. Our new tummies can be real picky sometimes. I still drink the lactaid because regular milk will still make me sick from time to time. But I like the lactaid. So I am okay with that. It is so weird how all of us are different as to what we can and can't tolerate. I hope you find something that works. Several weeks out, I did find that the Carb Solutions Vanilla powder you buy at Walmart is pretty tasty especially if you will mix it in a blender with some vanilla flavoring and a banana. I could do that and was better able to get my protein in that way. I have heard others at support group say they could do the Carb Solutions, too. Good luck!

I dont particurally like the protein shakes... I do like the coffee house protein drinks. They arent thick and gross they taste good and I get them at wal-mart.
Boil a couple of eggs in the morning and eat one through out the day. One egg has like 7 grams of protein in it. Chicken and Beef are huge in protein but I understand its hard to eat them.
Beef Jerky, cheese, cottage cheese, get unflavored protein powder and add it to jello, tea, water, any food....
Itll get better!
the shakes are a no go here also. i got to where i had to gag them down. im not sure if i can have the eggs since im only 10 days out but i will ask the dr. ive got the powder just havin a hard time mixin it wit stuff. im workin on it tho. thanks again. i appreciate all of this and im heading back to the kitchen to see what i can mix up next and try. thanks
Hey Becky,
Most days I don't make it either. I come close tho! I try to get one shake in a day. I got a bunch of samples from Susan Maria at bariatriceating.com. Some are not real thick and they taste better than anything else I have come across. Also, if you can, potted meat - check labels because some is ALOT higher in fat than others and also vienna sausages. I am 4 days ahead of you and can tolerate both really well.
The water is hard to get in too!!!
Smooch,
