Need info
Hi,
I am a new member and have read alot of others interesting before surgery encounters. What is the requirements now, I saw where alot of people had to wait months or have all these test done and it seemed like it took a very long time? I had the original gastric bypass procedure in 1987 and did not have to go through alot prior to. I was sick every day since then until I had it reversed in 2000.
I have a few friends that had the same thing I did and they did not have the problems with (vomiting every meal except salad, chips and candy).
Can anyone suggest the best place to go or the dr to see, there is so many to choose from.
Thanks
God Bless
Elizabeth
Elizabeth,
I had a VBG in 1991. I didn't have to have any tests run either. I was not sick, however. I just out ate my surgery so I had a revision done in April.
I went to Oxford. They are really good there and will perform revision surgery. My doctor was Dr. Byars but Dr. King is in that office as well.
They are wonderful and will be able to help you.
Let me know if you need any additional help.

The best place in the world to go is Keesler Air Force Base Medical Center in Biloxi. BUT you must be military-related.
However, Dr. Salameh in Jackson is great - but expect at least 6 months before you can get an appt. Dr. Whitehead in Hattiesburg is wonderful. Also Dr. Cleveland and Dr. Cummins at CMMC in Jackson. Dr. King in Oxford is great.....and that's all I can think of. Go to the find doc location on this website. Click on MS and there are a list of docs that have registered with OH. At the bottom, there is a place where you can click on other docs who have not registered on the site, but people on the site have used. Then email the folks that used the doc you are most interested in and get their opinions.
Good Luck!!!
Come back soon and post often!!!

Hey Elizabeth,
I think that alot of the waiting has to do with the "how your paying".
If you have a great insurance or Medicare that will cover it, you can get into most any place that does this.
If you are a Voc Rehab or Self-Pay w/FA help, your gonna have a long wait.
The Dr.'s that will take VR are few & far between. Doctors @ hospitals that'll work with you on paying are booked slam full, which does make you have a long wait.
Also, different places require that you go through different steps. They want to know that you are fully aware of what your doing & make sure that you are medically able to handle the surgery.
As for as the Best Dr. Hmmmm. I use Dr. Salameh, but he isn't taking new patients right now. He is so busy and backed up. I wouldn't even suggest that you try him any time soon.
Getting sick I'm still pre-op.
There are several people on here that have used other drs. Maybe they will jump in and tell you about theirs.
Hope this Helps. And I'm glad that you posted !!! Tammy
let me see Elizabeth. All we can tell you is what we know and what little advise we can give. The very first thing to do is jump in with a (doctor) soon and see what they require. Like Tammy said I think it mainly depends on your ability to pay and how many patients they have above you. Each doctor require different things so it is hard to put a finger on what they require. In Mississippi they have a few on the Coast as well. In Biloxi it use to be a female doctor name Amy Rose but she has left but her office still does the surgery, they have other doctors in there. I don't know info on her my home girl did her surgery under her. Go to Joann Brown under the Mississippi board and click on her doctor info. Joann if you are reading They have another in Ocean Springs MS it is call Cross Over the Bridge, they have a web site. Put WWW in front of it and the site will come up. Hopes this help.
Hi Sandra,
I used Dr. Amy Rose in Biloxi for my LapRNY in 2002. She was wonderful and so was her staff. She has moved but her staff and Dr Deron Ludwig are together in her office. They are affiliated with Gulf Coast Medical Center. I've had one yearly follow-up with him and he was pleasant and well-spoken, very interested in my issues even though he did not do my surgery. One benefit with him is he does Lap in most cases, some others in the area only do open.
Also, some surgeons are hesitant to operate on revisions or someone who has already been "altered" previously because they must deal with the new plumbing which makes the operation more complicated. Be sure and bring your records if you decide to make and appt.
Best of wishes,
Elesha
