Hi everyone and what's going on for today. Arlies our Queen, you'll be laying it down soon but hopefully not for long. Well let me tell everyone where I am with my situations. I talked to Janet/ Dr. Whitehead's office and she has my psy. eval. and my nutritional evaluation. Now all of Dr. Blake's patients please listen up ask guestions. Can some one tell me the difference between a nutritional evaluation and nutritional counseling? Janet said the lady I talked to in Jackson at the medical mall was for nutritional evaluation to see if I will be fit to have surgery, I guess to figure out if I would do right . Now I have to have Nutritional counseling but the problem is, Dr. Carson that works with them want be bac****il the end of Febuary. Now Forrest General is in the process of adding another nutritionist to their clinic to work with them because of the load they have. They just don't know how soon, but Janet is working on doing something, perhaps with another around town. She did say she would make sure I get in before the end of Febuary. God, I have been asking every since before christmas to just go ahead and do the counseling but I had no idea I only had an eval. ALL of Dr. Blake's patients if you are going to another doctor now besize Dr. Selamah please find out if the same thing is happening to you. Ask questions and read. All doctors have different criterias and maybe that's all Dr. Blake's office required. I am it has taken me this long to realize this much. Just a little to pass along. Take care everyone and have a good day.

Hey girl! I had two appointments with the nutritionist with Dr. Blake's office. The second one was the "counseling" session. Did you have two or just the first one? Can you use a nutritionist not in Dr. Whithead's group? Anyhow, the Queen is getting excited!!!!! Smooches Arlies

Sandra, Sorry you are having such a time. Dr. Carson is only in Hattiesburg once a month, so he has to see everyone in one or two days! His counseling consists of asking you questions to see if you really understand the changes that you are going to have to make, and to make sure that you understand the surgery is just a tool, not a cure, for obesity. He is very nice. I hate waiting also. And because of my fall, I had to postpone my surgery for 2 months. I know it seems like a long time till the end of February, but maybe Janet will find you someone else to see before then. I hope so. Hope to meet you at the support group meeting! Susan

I met w/ only one nutritionist ---on her first day at work. We only discussed nutrition after WLS. She was SWEET BUT --- DIDN'T TELL ME ANYTHING I DIDN'T ALREADY KNOW. I met her only once and have never seen any one again. I had blood work done at UMC once before surgery and once after surgery at UMC during a regular appointment. My last appointment at UMC was cancelled and the obesity clinc has not contacted me. My WLS date was 02-02-04. I am disappointed that I have been neglected. MY PCP is doing frequent blood work monthly and bimonthly . I have low magnesium and low potassium. I can not stress the IMPORTANCE OF GETTING YOUR PCP ON BOARD BEFORE, AND AFTER SURGERY. IT MAY HAVE WELL SAVED ME FROM A HEART ATTACK--due to low levels. I think that communication among depts and obesity clinic is part of the delay in people being seen by surgerons. Dr. Blake and I discussed this at a support group meeting . He stated that a lot of things were out of his control and that he was frustrated at the delays and scheduling problems. He treated me well. I was very lucky too--THANK GOD!!!!! I hope the obesity clinic is new and improved at UMC. I have some suggestions--if anyone cares. There was such confusion the two times I went I wanted to give up. As our friend Arlies shared---ALWAYS BE NICE TO RECEPTIONISTS AND NURSES AT THE CLINICS. THEY CAN AND WILL HELP YOU GET OR NOT GET A FAST APPOINTMENT OR RETURNED CALL. SORRY ABOUT YOU PAPERWORK CLIMB.
